What has happened to this place? Stavro’s WAS among the best pubs in Calgary but has been on a downward spiral over the past decade. Their pizzas used to be quite reasonably priced but are now the most expensive pub pizzas out there. $50 for 2 medium pizzas? That’s insane, especially since their great quality pizzas are now sub standard. Bar steak used to be very affordable & really good. Now, you get a junk cut for more than premium prices at other pubs. Never again!
Reminds me of the bar back in my hometown. Food is exactly what you think it’s going to be, games always on the tv, and nice friendly staff. Have tried most things once and haven’t been disappointed often.
This place has gone down the tube with the newer owners ! Portions are alot smaller now and the pizza is not the same as it used to be!! It says they open at 10:00 AM….Not since the long time day bartender left has this place EVER opened at 10:00. More like it opens whenever who’s working that day decides to come in to work( 11:00-11:30) Used to get take out from here at least 2 times a week… not anymore!!! If you order make sure it’s Mario that’s cooking, the rest have NO IDEA what they are doing!!
Sadly disappointed. Went for dinner the other night, we were looking forward to old style pizza from neighbourhood pizza joint. Ordered pizza and wings. Wings arrived at same time as pizza(should have come while we waited for pizza) wings were way over cooked no meat left on them just crust! Pizza was way over priced and it did not have all the toppings that were mentioned on the menu. Service while polite was slow to provide us with service and slow to offer additional drinks.
Great neighbourhood spot. I really like this place. Nothing fancy, just a casual, laid back atmosphere with super friendly staff, great pizza and decent prices. It is absolutely like stepping back in time going in there,(I wish I had stocks in the company that used to supply those rounded chairs with the wheels to all the sports bars/pubs back in the 80’s), but it’s clean and comfortable. The layout is good, comfy booth seats and plenty of tables – very easy to see the game from pretty much anywhere you sit, and the sound and/or music is never overbearing so you can actually have a conversation with those you are with.It warrants being said again – the staff are great. We like to visit pubs and have a pint when we get the chance, but you don’t get much genuine interaction with serving staff in other places. Enjoy dropping in here, especially for wing nights on Saturdays, and will keep it up as long as they will let us.
Ah for the good old days…. I use to believe that Stavros (on 16ave and 19th st, now Tipperary) had one of the best pizzas in town. I went there regularly many years ago, and unfortunately the ownership changed. The remaining NW restaurant is a pale reflection. The pizza is good, the service very good. Just not the pizza I remember.
Pricey Pizza. Decided to try your pizza, so we ordered 2 ten inch pizzas that came to $50. Our usual pizza restaurant (which is also Local to us) serves an equally topped pizza, only charges $30 for the exact same order. Yes, there was an overabundance of the toppings on your pizza – perhaps even a little overkill. The crust (which was incredibly salty) could hardly support the toppings. It just doesn’t warrant an increase of $20 for 2 ten inch pizzas. Please don’t suggest we call about your ‘specials’. We have a few favourites we enjoy, which is what we want when we decide to order pizza. Always like to have options when it comes to ordering in food, however the price variance encountered with our order, has unfortunately ruled out Stavros for us.
