In our continuing quest to find some good restaurants closer to home, we stumbled uponLa Piccola Napoli. With a couple of caveats, this is a very solidrestaurant for people in the area looking for a quality Italian meal. Now, don’t expect fancy presentations or unique dishes with twists on old favorites. These are just the old favorites. It’s not trendy or upscale and it’s not going to end up on any restaurant of the year lists but that’s okay cause it delivers the old school experience it promises. The food has overall been quite good on both our visits. Soups are tasty andthe bruschetta is fresh. The only miss has been the prawns which came in a very interesting lemony sauce but were overcooked. The mains were the most pleasant surprise. They make both a mean chicken parm and veal napoletana and the pastas are flavorful. If you have room, the tiramisu is good (not great) but their ice creams hit the spot.The price point ismaybe a little bit highbut that’s true of virtually every Calgary restaurant, so it’s hard to get worked up about. There’s pretty good value here and it’s an easy recommend to those who live and work close by and are looking for a regular Italian haunt. 4/5.
