I grew up in this neighbourhood, when I was a kid this is where Mawson’s drugs was. I was out shopping with a friend and we stopped in for a bit to grab some items and have a quick snack. Love the knick knacks and the atmosphere. Will go back, but whoa memories.

It’s a nice spot for a coffee and a light bite. My family is from Europe (Dutch) and this is a little slice of Germany although you can get Dutch stuff too. Very cute. Northern European communities are under represented in Calgary compared to Italian or even French so it’s a nice switch from the usual.

If you’re dieting, do not even try to come here. It’s like a magical gingerbread house of whipped cream and rainbows that you can’t turn down. They have a great selection of packaged European delights and random home accessories that are all pretty great. The deli, bakery and cafe area is what gets me every time. You have to check this place out if you have never been or if you’re craving a delicious coffee and some comfort food.

They have a hot food counter off to the left of store as you come in. You can get food to go or order to stay. They have ample seating but it does it bust on weekends. We came on saturday and it was quite packed but we were able to find a table. The combos come with a side of sauerkraut or red cabbage and German potato salad. The portions were generous. I got the spicy sausage with sauerkraut and potato salad and I was super full couldn’t finish the whole thing. The spicy sausage was tasty we ended up buying some sausage from the deli to take home. I also recommend the hot chocolate, it was sweet and extra creamy.

I shop in the store quite often, prices are higher then Dutch Cash and Carry but it’s closer so I don’t mind paying a little more. Today thought I’d grab some lunch on the way out! Worst service ever!!! Person behind the counter was the most unpleasant, unhappy and rude staff member there!!! Serviced the person behind me who just walk up and happened to be the closest to her!! I let that go and stayed to order. Once she walk up in the same unpleasant way I mention I was waiting before the other person she shrugged her shoulder and made an excuse, she really could have cared less!! If she wasn’t so rude and perhaps apologized I would have stayed and ordered but due to her attitude that was so incredibly frustrating after waiting I turned around and walk out!! Not that she will care about lost business but maybe other will think twice that rude staff members do not deserve your business.

Accidentally stumbled upon this place while looking for another restaurant. It’s a really cute European supermarket that has a cafe built inside. The person who took my order wasn’t all too friendly, but maybe it’s because they don’t see very many Asians come in. Since I was having lunch by myself I decided to play it safe and order the chicken pot pie. Which by the way was really good considering they warmed it up in a microwave. I’ll definitely be back to try more ethnic dishes when I’m feeling more adventurous!

Man, those ‘Roulades’ are soooo good. My goodness. The bacon was tender- the mustard and beef complimentary, and the gravy creamy. I am a mixer, so I mixed my gravy, mashed potatoes, and red cabbage together into a glorious concoction. Highly recommended!! Such atmosphere! Takes you to Germany.
