Not the way it used to be. Fat Jakks has definitely changed. We used to love eating and ordering food here before, but when we decided to give it another try tonight it was just disappointing. We ordered take out orders for my moms birthday. We just had a casual dinner celebration at home instead of eating out…..BAD mistake. The veggie spring rolls were good, but that maybe the only thing I thoroughly enjoyed tonight. We ordered other things like Kare-Kare, gross…….meat seems dry and old……sauce was bland with no taste whatsoever….the tripe had a gross taste to it…..was just disgusting. Note: Kare-Kare is my fave Filipino dish….so I would know. Another thing we ordered was the Fried Chicken! This usually never disappoints but it did today! Some people thought the chicken was old and I didn’t believe them…. it tasted fine, but after a little bit I noticed that some of the chicken was different, some are fresh and some are dry…hmmmmm….. and finally we ordered the lechon kawali…. gross it had a taste to it and a stench to it….my mom said a tagalog word for it, but i forgot. Disappointing! I don’t think we will be back anytime soon! There is a Filipino restaurant in the south that beats Fat Jakks in category by a landslide, but I’m not gonna say the name and promote it here as it is kind of rude. Hint: Very south of Edmonton.
Nothing more than home cooked food or worse. I recently went to Fat jakks as i heard many good reviews online.. I was really dissapointed when I went for the first time. The meat was over cooked and a fried food that I have ordered just mins before (I live close to the place) became soggy and cold when i got home. My calamari was burnt.. the batter was so hardened that It was hard to bit into it … we didnt get any sauce with our our. As for our house special chow mein, the vegetables were so big and the sauce was beyond salty! … i didnt give up there, I thought maybe i’d ordered the worst food there … so i went again.. ordered an order of fried rice and schechuan beef. In my disbelief, the beef was wayyy tooo cooked and the rice in the fried rice were in small pieces. I would never return to fat jakks or recommend it to anyone. I’d rather go to nearby restaurants such as the AHFR. services was better and food was good for a cheaper price.
I come by this place about once a month, finally decided to try it. All in all the place is good. A decent selection, my only issue is some undercooked vegetables.
Amazing. Gotta love Filipino food. I always order the kare-kare whenever I go with my family… And the BBQ kabobs are to die for. It definitely is a must order!
This place ain’t that bad mostly Filipino food but I liked it.
It was only 10$ buffet but the food wasn’t too great.
I’d reccomend this place. This is truly an Asian restaurant. They feature about 7 different countries in Asia. Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Malaysian – can’t remember the others. The buffet is quite nice and has a good, not great variety of food. I once went for lunch with 8 people and ordered the dinner for 6. There was food left over and a couple of us packed away a lot of food. Price is ok. I’d definitely say try this place.
