Ordered delivery from Royal India tonight. It came sooner than expected which was a good surprise. I love spices so Indian food is a regular for me. The Bartha is my fave dish from the Indian cuisine. So far, nowhere has topped that dish at Moti mahal. If you get that from here, make sure you get at least a medium spice otherwise it really isn’t good. I wasn’t sure how many samosas came in one order so we ordered 4 (see picture) and it came with a lot. The butter chicken was a pretty disappointing as the chicken was dry!! You would think this is a safe dish to order… I guess not. The only thing I enjoyed was the goat. It has a nice kick and the meat is fall off the bone tender. First time trying the pickled radish and they were so salty I stopped at the first bite. Unfortunately, this will be my last time eating here.
Went here last Saturday for the dinner buffet It was poor to say the least. When we walked in there was fewer than 8 other people in the restaurant which is a bad sign. The food was cold and not fresh at all, the bathrooms were dirty, and the staff did not seem to care at all. I would not recommend under any circumstance. Go elsewhere.
Had the lunch buffet earlier today with a client and can’t seem to wrap my head around why this place is so busy. The food isn’t very good and flowed right through my system. The only positive part of our experience was the plates being cleared right away, but that doesn’t justify a 20% tip.16 Aug, 2014Decent sized venue. Dinner Buffet looked okay and had a good selection of dishes, but the food didn’t sit well in my stomach.
Lunch Buffet: Expensive for limited choice, mediocre food. Lunch buffet is 18 + tax. Very limited selection of meat – no lamb. Butter chicken was average, tandoori was more like fried chicken. I have had better Indian buffets for less in Calgary. I would advise against the lunch buffet.
Good buffet, no service to speak of.. I went today for the lunch buffet, and was mostly satisfied. The butter chicken was good (still no Masala Express!), though the beef curry was only mediocre. The naan bread was the best I’ve had at a buffet and the rice was fluffy and fresh. I also enjoyed the dessert. I forget what it’s called. It’s like a donut in syrup? Anyway, yum.There was no service to speak of. Nobody even came and asked me for a drink order, so I went with water. I didn’t expect much from a buffet, but this was particularly neglectful.Overall thumbs up because indian buffets can be very bad, and from a food perspective this was not at all. Also the company was excellent!
Best Butter Chicken EVER!. The many times that I have ate at Royal India, lunch buffet and evening a la carte, I have enjoyed the food tremendously. I find the food, especially the Butter Chicken, the best Indian food that I have ever had. It is always consistently delicious and I am never disappointed. I have been to many different Indian restaurants around Calgary and in different cities, but there is no comparison. If you have the lunch buffet, don’t forget the rice pudding to complete your meal!Enjoy!
Group Booking Fail. A large group of 24 people from my work were tried multiple times to make a reservation/booking. We were told to call back in the early afternoon when the guy that does the group bookings was going to be in to access the reso book. Fine. But after multiple calls and being told multiple times to call back we gave up and booked at another restaurant. Highly disorganized, would not recommend even trying, with the amount of other places that could accomodate us, it wasn’t worth the effort.
