The Sunday buffet brunch at Thomson’s has always been a family favorite of ours for special occasions but under the tutelage of Chef Hideyuki Hirooka, a solid Sunday brunch has turned exceptional. Everyone from servers, to managers, to kitchen staff exhibit a strong service mentality. No request is too imposing. The quality of food is consistently high and the assortment ever changing. Arrive after noon, grab a table on the outdoor patio and watch the world go by while sipping mimosas and noticing passersby oogle your brunch selections. Food is always fresh no matter what time you arrive. Free indoor parking is included (make sure you have your ticket validated before you leave). At $36 per person including non alcoholic drinks, coffee, and an assortment of high quality desserts the value is exceptional for what I believe to now be the best Sunday buffet brunch in the Calgary Banff corridor.

Thomson’s… what happened???We have been here many times in the past for brunch and have always enjoyed it. Good food, good service, good atmosphere. This time? Meh! Someoneis so obviously cutting corners to save a few bucks, and it showed! Food quality was mediocre at best, fewer selections, and service wasn’t as friendly as we’ve experienced in the past as well. This *WAS* a family tradition at Christmas to come and have a nice brunch. Sadly, we’ll be switching venues. What used to be an exceptional brunch has declined into the realms of your average hotel buffet. For that price, it’s not worth it in our books.

Lovely service here. Staff are always smiling and are very attentive. We stayed at Hyatt Regency for 6 days and had the buffet breakfast every morning. Food here is great, they change the options every morning so it’s nice to eat something different. You can also order waffles, pancakes and eggs Benedict from the kitchen that is included with the meal. Kids under 12 dine for free. The only thing you need to look out for is payment. Always make sure you check your receipt as we got charged for two extra people on the very last day of our stay – we invited some of our friends to join us for breakfast and I guess they took advantage of that.

Had a business breakfast here. Had the acacia do toast with poached eggs. Very good but the coffee was weak and the place was a bit datedTypical hotel buffet but ok choice if you’re in town

I often have breakfast or brunch with colleagues and clients here because of the location. Most often, the food is ok, but the service is terrible. Slow servers and on one occasion I was served a half-cooked omelette. When I sent it back, the cook from the omelette station came to my table and told me that’s how an omelette is cooked?!

Ate there for breakfast; sampled the breakfast buffet. Serviceable options, good layout for efficient self-service. Server was overly attentive; could dial back the frequency of check-ins. Very expensive, however, for breakfast ($50+ for two).

Came here for dinner with a company Christmas party and it was average. There were a number of appetizers to share with the table which were very good. We had parmesan truffle fries, calamari, bread. For appetizers with our meal we could choose between butternut squash soup or salad. I got the soup. It was very good. Really tasty. The portion was huge though. It must have been about 2 1/2 cups. Really generous for an appetizer. Those that ordered the salad, a meal sized salad I swear, could not even come close to finishing it. The salad was really beautifully plated and really good. There was a choice of salmon, chicken, and steak for the entree. I had the salmon, which was undercooked, but I ate it around the middle. Better than overcooked and I was so full from the soup I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish my entree. The salmon came with a positively enormous amount of wilted flavorless spinach and at least 10, maybe 15 stalks of flavorless, but perfectly cooked, asparagus. I could not finish all the greens. It was way too much. Others had the chicken and the steak and out of more than 20 people barely anyone could finish their meal. The steak also came with a massive amount of asparagus and green beans, which are so similar it was kind of an odd pairing. More vegetable variety would have been nice. The dessert choices were a butter tart (no raisins and very sweet and rich), a creme brul with a piece of chocolate bark with rice crispies on it (the rice crispies did not add to the chocolate at all but the brul was very good, a chocolate cake (the person that ordered this said it was quite good), and an eggnog cheesecake. All in all service was good, the room if nice, my meal was ok. I don’t understand why the portions are so huge. If I came back if go with someone and make sure we ordered one thing and split it. This place would be great if you had an enormous appetite.
