I was there and got a lunch box today (roast duck and bbq pork with veg and rice), I went there because Wai Kee BBQ is closed on Tuesdays but I am craving for roast duck. I think their food quality was below average, and their sauce is nearly tasteless which makes the white rice tasteless. Price is relatively high, as Wai Kee charges for $9 while they charge $12.60. Quantity was relatively less, it’s not a concern for me but it may be for some gentlemen.
Went to Vics for lunch. It is a typical Hong Kong diner with a BBQ stand at the side nothing like efficiency. We ordered the Roast Duck Noodle Soup and Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. You have the option of selecting what type of noodles you would like (additional charges may apply). The roast duck noodle soup was delicious (should have known with the BBQ station inside the restaurant) while the beef brisket noodle soup was average. Service is standard for a Chinese restaurant (not particularly friendly or customer service oriented). Theres also a high probability of table sharing with strangers due to the limited space inside designating all tables in the middle of the restaurant communal. The meal came to $21 after tax.
Happened to be passing through Chinatown today and the lady and I were hungry. Let’s try a new place she said , how about this place she said. Never again. We came in and ordered chicken and barbecue pork on rice which was good. But our Chinese soup had a fly in it that upon bringing to the server’s attention , she tried to destroy it with the spoon so that it looks like pepper. Her response after was I don’t see a fly what fly. Good thing I took a picture and I’m attaching it to this review. She ended up bringing me an alternate soup however which had a lot of pepper so I had a harder time trying to sift through to see if it was flies or grains of pepper. We also had beef noodle soup which there was a hair in. Two for two with red flags here. Sent it back to the kitchen and they clearly made a fresh dish for us so we think. I’ve also taken a picture and attached it in this review. Here’s where the major failure happened. The server could have come and talk to us and said that she was going to do something special considering we had two major problems arise from our first visit. She at this point just went on like business as usual and ignored us from this point on. Burn. Now it’s more like being in the middle of a Vietnamese nails salon where the staff are talking in Vietnamese about the customers.I would have actually rated this place a zero , but the barbecue pork is actually good and the manager who rang us in was polite. Though he did pretend like he didn’t know there was a problem. We almost had to pay full price until I asked him if he was going to do anything about the bill because of that incident. His response was let me give you 10% off and a free drink to take on the road. Wasn’t too happy about this but at this point at least the visit is over. Highly doubt I’ll ever come back. At 15%-20% i might have not uploaded the pictures. But a good place that cares about their service would have removed the effected items from the bill.
Came here on a Sunday afternoon as I was recovering from a hangover and the girlfriend and I were craving soup. We ordered the egg drop, hot and sour soup, alongside two types of BBQ meat (Roasted pork and soy chicken) The egg drop soup was watery and girlfriend and I did not like the addition of the water chestnuts as it gave an odd texture to the soup. (imagine the texture of a pear in your soup) The hot and sour soup was well made, very flavorful and filling. Right amount of sourness and spicy. I would definitely come back for this soup. The roast duck was crispy and tender, soy chicken was soft and flavourful. My only complaint is that I felt the dish to be expensive for the amount of meat received. (13.95) Service was average. What you would expect from an Asian restaurant.
This is probably the best service I get from a Chinese restaurant! The servers are very nice and efficient. I have yet to encounter a rude server that I would usually at other Chinese restaurants. They have an extensive menu with huge portions for a decent price! They also have good BBQ, which is their specialty. I love getting their BBQ pork and BBQ duck that they sometimes run out of come evening.
The BBQ pork here is probably the best in town. Succulent, flavorful and tender. If you have $10 to spend on a lunch this is the place to be. Their takeout combo has extremely generous portions.
Gone are the days of Happy Valley. It was replaced with Vics or should I say Sicks. That is what happened when we ate some prawns. Sick .. sick sick. I have avoided it since the opening but a work friend picked this for dinner .. Good lord anyone that says this is good food must like mall food. Zero customer service, everything took forever, and it was greasy and salty. How is this place still open?
