La Boulangerie is a great place to grab a coffee and little something sweet. They also offer savoury dishes…. sandwiches, soups, etc., but I only opted for dessert. I had the new york cheesecake. It was delish. Latte was great too. The owner was so friendly, she even brought me and my 3 friends complimentary profiteroles after we sat down on the patio. They were fantastic too!
Stopped for a bite and coffee on my walk today, normally stop at the Purple Perk for pastry and a coffee and will be going back. This place is over priced, mediocre quality product and I am not sure why they are full, other than maybe there is the large patio.
This place was a disappointment. We were going to Wurst for a late lunch but decided to try this place. We were beyond disappointed. I ordered their pepper salami on baguette with a french onion soup. My friend ordered a tuna on croissant. The first bite of my sandwich was so so disappointing the baguette was harder ans drier then normal and literally the pepper salami was regular salami no pepper in it. Since salami is sliced really thin they literally gave one slice per section of the sandwhich the basil was not spread out and they spread some sort pf pepper spread and did not cover thw whole bread and then used the small bocconcini (sliced in half) and spread it about half inch from each other and there were tomatoes i the sandwhich. When i ate it i could not even taste the salami or the bocconcini and some bites i can taste the basil and some not. I felt it was literally a tomato sandwhich which cost me $9.00. The french onion soup was ok, not to salty and lots of onions. This was the worst sandwhich place i have been too. I have posted a photo of my joke of a sandwhich. I ended up throwing the other half out. My friends tuna sandwhich was ok other then the croissant was dry as well. Oir meal was not cheap for a crappy meal, which makes me angry cause i feel we were just penalized and had to pay for such a terrible meal. If they were once good….They are not now! I will never go there again.
It’s a little bakery/cafe in mission right next to Wurst. Pro: variety of menuCon: pastries I was hoping I can find another bakery that serves good quality croissant, their croissant was just ok. It wasn’t something I like such as light and airy layer inside, buttery and almost crunchy outside. Their croissant wasn’t buttery enough for me and a little bit dense side. It is just my preference and I’m pretty picky so I’d like to hear from other people about it!Also, I tried eclair as well. It was also ok. Nothing spectacular, but decent. I had their crepe too. It’s also just ok. I paid extra for whip cream but it was one of those spray can cream. I can’t believe they serve that quality cream even though they do make pastries(or maybe they don’t make cream from scratch??). I know they use can because they forgot to put whip cream on mine and I brought my plate to them to get cream after. This kind of cream is only acceptable at stampede, not a cute little cafe like here, disappointing. However, there are menus that I haven’t try, they have soup, stew, other bread, etc. I do think the range of menu is really good their, if you like their baking it’s a good place to come hang out. EXCEPT, there are very omitted space to sit, the distance between table to aisle is very narrow. If you don’t mind people always passing by, the cafe itself is cute!Overall, I’d chose side walk citizens for croissant, I’d chose shuzette bistro for crepe. I don’t mind to come back for menu I haven’t tried, but I wouldn’t repeat things I already had.
Kicking off the 2017 travel schedule in Alberta, games at arenas #26 and #27 of the NHL Bucket List on the agenda, Saturday morning was off to an early start at La Boulangerie Bakery Caf in Calgary, a spot that once the 8-day trip was finished still stood out for some items worth seeking out including a flawless savory Croissant and world-class Canele.Located at 2435 4 Street SW and open at 6:30am every day but Monday, much like the best of France, La Boulangerie Bakery Caf brings European craftsmanship and work-ethic to Western Canada with a collection of Pastries, Tarts and Viennoiserie that is far too vast to be explored in one visit, a total of eight items ranging from good to excellent only scratching the surface of what Id like to have tasted.Surprisingly busy given the cold weather and early hour, at least two-dozen patrons passing through or sitting down to enjoy during my short stay, service was smiling and helpful while seats were close-packed yet comfy, a small two-top near the door almost overloaded by a collection from which the Mozzarella and Sesame Croissant was sampled first laminated layers shattering to the tooth just as they would in the Cream and Almond-filled versions later, but giving way to a gooey, cheese-lacquered center that melded perfectly with toasty Sesame notes and plenty of Butter.Admittedly not wowed by the Almond Croissant, thankfully not marred by Frangipane but also a bit too stingy with ground Almonds, expectations were met by a Kouign Amann awash with butter and a crackling Sugar bottom, the Canele going one step further and surpassing almost any outside of Europe in terms of crispiness overlying Custard, even if the outside lacked the traditional deep-brown polish.Setting aside the Cinnamon Roll, underflavored though well laminated like the rest, better bites were found amidst the sliced Croissant that stood up well the cream filling, the same to be said of crisp Choux surrounding the naturally flavored Pistachio filling of a lengthy clair while both the Caramel Tart and self-proclaimed Best Brownie in Calgary were well constructed with Nuts helping to temper their sweetness. endoedibles.com
Amazing food/coffee with the classic tiny french cafe vibe. The strawberry tart was mind blowing. Rich custard balanced with tart strawberries all on top of a crumbly crust. Seriously perfection. The beef stew (not pictured) was a bit too salty, but the flavours were great! The ham & cheese croissant was delicious! When I picked it up I was surprised by how heavy it was. It is REALLY packed with cheese. A warm, cheesy croissant in the morning, doesn’t that sound GREAT? The coffee was hot and fresh! I would definitely come back for the desserts. Service was a bit awkward but nothing to complain about.
