The sub/wonton soup combo for $9 is a steal. The sub is as good as any other good Vietnamese restaurant in town and the wonton soup is a generous portion for a combo deal (with 6 wontons and lots of lettuce). In all honesty this combo is such good value that I have not tried anything else on the menu with my 3 visits there so far. When things get so expensive in Calgary I find this incredible! Also friendly staff and good service.
Bland. Pho noodle soup here has a weak flavor. Salad rolls were plain. Next day gave me diarehha. I recieved a 5$ off coupon for eating during special hours. When I wanted to use the coupon shortly after, I could only choose a narrow selection of items and I had to buy an extra appitizer which nullified any savings I speculated. It was really a way for them to sell more product than it was to help me out.Overall, an okay place to eat once or maybe even twice if you get a coupon, but by no means a treat. Save your hard earned money for somewhere better!
Went in tonight with my boyfriend for satay soup and rice vermicelli. The flavours were excellent, portions were great, and the seasoning on the meat was the best I’ve had in a very long time. I’ll be back.
Got my vermicelli in a box with no sauce. Needs to be in a bowl!! Ice coffee was good! Was pleasant inside, and seems to be clean, with pretty girls working there.
Just like others said here: overpriced. Had a vermicelli bowl with bbq pork and spring rolls. Pork was tender and the sauce they use was tasty. Spring rolls weren’t too bad either. But the serving size was about 2/3 of what you normally get at an average Vietnamese restaurant. And you are paying more. If it was a lot tastier then they could justify the price and the size, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Friendly service though. Would I go back for another one? Probably not. They could play some music inside. It was very quiet with only me and one another customer waiting for his to-go order and it was a bit uncomfortable. Especially so because it is a roomy restaurant. Too bad.
Went there for the first time and ordered a beef viet sub. The biggest reason why I decided to write a review was because of the staff that works there(or should I say particularly one I’ve witnessed). While I was waiting for the food to be made, I’ve noticed that one of the staff there was preparing meats, noodles, and veggies and using the same gloves to go in the freezer, and in the back room(touching the door handles, boxes, etc). He then came back and finished prepping all the food with the same pair of gloves. Maybe I’m being anal and complaining but this is how germs spread! I’m writing this review in hopes that the owner reads this review and better educate the staff that works there. Other than that, staff was friendly. Viet sub was extremely small compared to the other places I’ve been to. I will not be going back.
This is one of those places where you’re not actually paying for the food. You’re paying for the high-value rent…the food is just an accompaniment. The sub is about half the size of the subs you’ll get anywhere else, and it’s a few bucks more. Same with the vermicelli dishes. You pay more, you get less.Kinda disappointing, because it’s owned by the Oriental Phoenix folks (hence the name), but it’s not as satisfying as their two original restaurants.
