Celebrated our anniversary here tonight. My wife ordered the braised beef, I had the steak. Service was slow, our meal arrived after waiting for 50 minutes. Presentation for both meals was outstanding but the portions were small. The braised beef was a disappointment, lots of fat and gristle. My steak was a nice cut of tenderloin sliced against the grain done medium which is the way I like it. When the server asked how our meals were we told her we were very disappointed with the braised beef. The manager came over and offered to order something else which we declined. She offered us free desert and took the braised beef off the bill. We were very satisfied with how she handled the meal. Overall this restaurant has potential and we will give it another try in the future. Hopefully the manager talked to the chef about being more selective with his cuts of meat.
We love Cochrane eateries – Mehtab, My Greek Plate, etc are fantastic. However – we were glad to be turned on to F&P – this place would fit in anywhere in Calgary or Vancouver. The garlic bulb was divine – a decadent shareable subtle in flavour not overpowering. My wife had the fritters and me the braised beef – totally tasty and nicely accompanied with beautiful baby carrots and mashed spuds. Desert – best weve had in a long while – banana chocolate and triple-creme-brulee – a visual and tasty extravaganza. Full meal deal with wine and suds – all for $130 – very good value. Well be back for sure – worth the drive.
Today was our second time at Fence and Post. Both times were disappointing. First time was for dinner and the today for brunch. First I would like to state the the hostess and servers are so friendly. The portions are small the prices are Not Small. In fact , its far over priced. The server stated its because they use such high quality ingredients- but I can make a far better brunch at home and for far less money. I just feel like they are trying too hard.. why would anyone pay 13$ for a brunch cocktail. 14$ if youre having Prosecco… I fly to England three times a month and I pay less in Europe than I would at Fence and Post. Omelette was teeny tiny . Eggs Benedict was on a dried out and stale home made biscuit. Friends grilled cheese was underdone. Over all. Nothing to write home about. Sad that in a year there only one other review written.
