Apparently hopping in the car, running over small furry animals and driving out to Cochrane on a hot summer day is a decidedly Calgary thing to do — hell, I’m from Edmonton. And yes, you can get Mackay’s in the ‘Chuk but it seems more authentic to hit the dusty trail. And double yes, it IS the real deal, obviously made from local cows. Don’t ask me why, but you can definitely taste it over store bought. I like Tiger, Tiger — orange and black liquorice — the kid likes strawberry. All good, and worth the drive.
Overpriced?…maybe. Delicious?…YES! I think money is well spent at a place that makes their own product such as McKay’s. The flavour list will have something for every taste and the service is always good. The major wrench in the operation is the fact that it gets stupid busy…especially on weekends. A personal recommendation is the Kulfi…I can’t get enough!
Tolally overpriced ice cream and I can’t figure out why people would line up down the street and block other stores. They must be out of towners as locals wouldn’t wait for this overpriced product.
Great place! It was crazy busy, but understandably so! The ice cream was excellent, Ihad a scoop ofstrawberry and it was socreamy and had really yummynatural flavour. I can’t wait to come back again.
Been going to Mackays since I was small boy, its remained pretty much the same and has a lot of history, considering the crazy long line ups, you still move through pretty fast, their service is usually good and ice cream is………ice cream, cant go wrong, the ambience of the place is cool, I make it out there 5-6 times a year and see no reason to stop.
Most favourite icecream stop in Cochrane, lots of flavours to choose from. Staff are friendly. Very fresh waffle cones! Always packed in the summer
Visited MacKay’s for the first time this week while camping in the area. Our experience should have been delightful and delicious. The shop itself is wonderful. The flavor selection is awesome. Prices are what one would expect in a home grown ice cream shop. Creamy ice cream. Great flavor (except the Tiger ice cream was pretty bland with zero kick)The downside was one of the staff was in a miserable mood and was barking and glaring at customers as if they were an irritating inconvenience instead of the means of her paycheck. The young man with great hair was cheerful, smiling and showed real prowess by holding upwards of six cones in one hand while scooping blobs of ice cream into them. This gave our children a thrill to watch. . My low rating is due to the miserable young woman who ruined the experience for us and the other customers in line. Her employers may want to replace or at least train her to treat the customers with some kindness and respect.
