Great catering. I met Jean a year ago, when she catered a function for my sister. This event was efficiently and effortlessy catered, and I never forgot the food, especially the ceviche! One of my kids got married recently, and I asked Jean to cater an event for 30. Once again, from the ceviche, to the empinadas, to the chorizo tarts and chicken skewers, and finally to the key lime tarts and Mexican wedding cookies, everything was beautifully prepared. My guests asked for doggie bags! I drive across town to get the ceviche – great job Jean!

Great Mexican Cooking Classes. Besides offering a wide range Mexican cooking ingredients and limited but yummy takeout food, Salsita also offers excellent cooking classes.
Nice variety of groceries. I went there a couple weeks ago with my husband as I was looking for good corn chips, flour tortillas, and perhaps some epazote (I was making pico de gallo for Cinqo de Mayo, and figured I’d make some chicken fajitas and refried beans for us at home, while I was at it). The corn chips I found were nice and crispy and not overly salted, and I enjoyed the flour tortillas I got from their fridge (now I appreciate real tortillas over the Dempster’s variety). The lady at the counter was kind enough to root around the back room to find me a bag of dried epazote (a mexican herb of sorts to throw into your pinto beans). I’d like to come back sometime I try the eat-in (or take-out) food. The same day, we happened to be on International Avenue, so we dropped by El Bombazo to compare the grocery store. I found there was more of everything at Salsita, though I’m still interested in trying El Bombazo for dine-in.
Salsita. We went to this place a couple of months ago when it was called Boca Loca .We were not given a menu (maybe that is new) The server told us about the special only so that is what we had .We saw a sign with special on it but was told that was not available and someone took it away .We were not told you could get any other food than the special . It was good food but we were unclear about the choices available to us . We also got some salsa to take home when we were done.. It just seemed kind of disorganized . As we sat at our table a long line up of people waiting to pay for their groceries stood beside us ,within inches of our table..Maybe a reconfiguration of the space would be nice with the cash register at another location maybe right exactly when you enter instead of the display of things you could purchase. . . It was not a pleasant place to eat even if the food was good..You felt a tension in the air as the server was trying to do cash, and answer questions and serve. It seemed as though the grocery end of it was what their main concern was. But maybe things have inproved. I have heard their take home and cook dishes are very nice.
I love this place!. I’ve gotten groceries and some prepared food at Boca Loca, a burrito, guacamole, and salsa I think. All delicious! I really love this place, but it is so far away 🙁
