Recently ate at Fiddler’s Courtyard/Renfrew (for the last time). Hadn’t been there in close to a year because of another disappointment, and shouldn’t have figured anything would be better. Our waitress was extremely unknowledgeable about the menu. We paid more than double for a less than adequate meal than what we should have. We have had 3 disappointments at this establishment, and that is 3 too many. On one visit, I wasn’t allowed to have fries due to gluten cross contamination in the deep fryer so I had rice with my burger. Dry rice, as they have no gluten free soya sauce. I asked for a side of dressing for my dry rice and the waitress charged me $2.00 for a tblsp of dressing! In this current economy, restaurants/Fiddler’s Courtyardshould treat their patrons with a little more respect. I won’t know if anything improves as I will never be back.
I’ve paid a couple of visits here for a late lunch and confess the day-drinking regular crowd doesn’t appear to be the most upwardly-mobile hipster set. I’m not sure what the nighttime crowd would look like. In any event they serve pints of Innis & Gunn beer at a reasonable price and I was impressed with their rendition of a buffalo chicken wrap. I will be back to give something else a try.
I have never been in the establishment, but I have had their wings, fries and deep fried pickles. Not very good, all but fries. But you can’t really mess up on fries.Pickles had too much batter on it, the sauce for wings were okay, but many of the wings weren’t coated well at all.
This service at this place is horrendous. Had our waitress bring out an extra bill with 8 pints on it that nobody ordered. When trying to explain to her it was incorrect she would storm away. She heard me say her tip was getting smaller and she literally came up and screamed in my face. When we asked for a pen to write out what we each had she threw the pen at us and walked away. The manager was no more helpful and I ended up paying for an extra 4 pints that our table didn’t order. We were there for name that tune, which we won. However we couldn’t apply the gift card to cover the extra pints we were incorrectly billed for (which the bar should have taken care of themselves, as it was obviously their error, we had 3 different servers within the first hour of being there). Then we had to wait almost another hour longer for the manager to write up our gift card. She claimed she had better things to do, which included dancing behind the bar and giggling with the servers. While we stood there and waited our server stood beside us with another server and kept looking over at us and laughing. This was THE WORST service I’ve ever had in my entire life. Talk about an embarrassment for the owner. Even another group who was sitting at the bar bought us drinks while we waited for the gift card because they felt bad for us. She managed to pour the drinks just fine, even though they were ordered after we had been standing there for 20 minutes, although if she knew they were for us I’m sure she wouldn’t have been so friendly… Not sure why she couldn’t just write the GC so we could leave. It’s a shame, we live close by and so do a lot of our friends. None of us will ever be back after this experience. This was literally the most unprofessional situation I’ve ever seen. Disgusting behaviour.
Great no nonsense pub. Went last night with a group to watch the game and have dinner. Everything we ordered was hot, tasty and served in a timely manner. Our waitress was clearly over worked and still managed to have everything to us without a wait. Great service, surprisingly good food and a menu that is full of interesting items – I think we’ve found our new spot in the North.
Doors not open. I went there at 9:30 on a Saturday. Signs beside the door said open at 9 am, the large sign inside said open but the doors were locked. We could see the dead bolt was also locked. We banged on the doors and nothing, we left and I decided to give them a call and the waitress was extremely rude. We use to love going there now I can say we will never go again.
Surprise brunch spot! So good!. Was just at Fiddlers Courtyard for brunch with my husband and his buddy. I was super hesitant as I rarely have a good experience in a pub type atmosphere but….the food was amazing!!! I had the eggs benedict, eggs were exactly as ordered and the hollandaise sauce was perfect. My husbands steak and eggs were perfect. Our friend loved his big breakfast meal too. We all agreed that the hash browns were crazy amazing. All were a healthy but not ridiculous portion. I honestly cannot say enough about how good my meal was. The atmosphere is that of a normal pub, darker decor with a mix of booths and tables, comfortable and clean. For lunch time on a Saturday it wasn’t too busy and our service was great. Will definitely be returning.
