I had high hopes for this place, being named after halibut, which is widely thought of in the UK as the tastiest fish for battering. I’ve had fish and chips in lots of places across the world, and while this wasn’t bad by any means, it certainly didn’t come close to the best either. The pieces of fish were small for the price, and the batter was greasy and thin. The chips were decent, but we will be looking elsewhere for our fish and chips in Calgary!

Amazing. I love the fish and chips here, again and again I have come here and have left satisfied and counting down the days to my next stop. The batter is crispy, not too thick, and the fish that is cooked is tender and juicy. The tartar sauce is amazing too. The only thing that could be better is if the fries were crispy, they are traditional house cut fries and still delicious though. If you are looking for fish and chips at a great price, stop here. 3 piece basa and chips for 12$, doesn’t get much cheaper than that here in the city.

Flavourless, Tiny Portion. I wanted some fish and chips, moseyed on down on a sunny day. First impression was that the portion was on the small side, so it must taste great! Got completely flavourless fish and batter, at least add some salt or something. Was there with a friend and he usually fills up pretty quick but he commented that he was still hungry after 2 piece halibut combo I had the same feeling. It would be a perfect portion for a 10 yearold child that enjoys bland food.

Perfectly cooked halibut. Very fresh, moist and perfect thickness in batter Fries although were undercooked And the gravy was not good at all But the fish was great. Perhaps ask for your fries to be cooked longer as mine were soggy. (Don’t order gravy )

Always a first class Fish & Chips. We have had take-out from Halibut House for years. Always nice quality and decent size. Switch between Halibut and Cod, but the Halibut is a bargain at the moment ($15.95 for three pieces with fries), so we have been choosing it a little more frequently. The owner is very nice and polite. Probably eaten 100+ meals and never been disappointed. The soups are good, especial the seafood chowder, and the combos are a nice change. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
