Maxima is a great place to get some freshly baked Chinese desserts if you’re ever in Lambda market. We decided to try the Cocktail Bun ($1.40) and a deep fried red bean paste glutinous rice ball ($1.40). While the bakery itself is certainly in need of a facelift, the pastries are very good. The rice ball was nicely crisp and filled with a generous amount of perfectly sweetened red bean paste and the cocktail bun was packed with coconut filling. I’m definitely curious to try more of their pastries!
I love their buns! They’re reasonably priced and they’re not chinsy on the filling. My favorites are the curry beef, ham and egg and butter buns. Their deep fried meat dumplings are also really good!
Delicious Baked Goods. Maxima is located inside the Lambda grocery store. Once you enter through the double automatic doors, it is on your right.Went to Maxima on a weekday close to noon hour, so there were a few people picking up baked goods.Purchased the char siu bun, curry beef bun, cocktail bun, and pineapple butter bun.All the buns were very moist, flavourful, light/airy, and downright delicious. Average price per bun is $1.10.Both meat buns had a good helping filling and was kept toasty warm inside an oven, for the char siu bun, it contained large quantites of char siu, while the curry beef bun had ample ground beef in it, I don’t mind it being spicy, but for those that don’t like spicy food, you may want to stay away as the curry beef bun does have some kick to it.The cocktail bun was simply scrumptious. The filling was moist, sweet, and done right. The pineapple butter bun had a nice mild buttery filling inside, which made the entire bun simply delightful.I found the selection of buns to be limited, but the buns they do offer for sale is baked perfectly.
