Potential, but a bit disappointing. The music was way too loud. When I asked the waitress what were their popular items, she replied that there were really none and did not offer any comments on the menu. The service was only mildly attentive. It took awhile to get in our drink and then our food order. We were told that the plates were meant for sharing. The quantity was small for both the price and sharing. The prices for food and alcohol were on the high side. For these prices, I’d expect much better service at a minimum. We passed by 2 weeks after dinner for lunch. The patio was in the shade and the music was blaring as we approached the restaurant. We turned around and went elsewhere as we were looking for a relaxing lunch on a patio, but the loud music combined with the shade was a deterrent for giving the restaurant a second chance. Perhaps if the music was not so loud, we would have tried it.
This should be an epic establishment as it has the location, the setting (its in a little old house with bocce ball lanes in the backyard), friendly service, and famous owners. I had to rate this place 1/5 as the food was horrible quality! We ordered the charcuterie and it only had three very common types of deli salami and tiny pickled plums with a few pieces of baguette. I can drive to the Italian market down the street and come up with a more sophisticated selection. No cheese. Terrible. Had to ask for olive oil on the side and extra baguette twice (which we were charged for). We also tried the pizza bread and it was so basic and bland. Ridiculously priced for the quality of food here. Unbelievable. Wine and beer selection is fine but pricey.
I visited Tarvenetta last July and immediately fell in love with their patio area (one of the only patios in the neighbourhood). I was however not particularly impressed by the menu which lacked more vegetarian options (I believe that they have revamped their menu since so it might warrant a second visit). The food itself was good, but not mind-blowing and, in my opinion, quite overpriced. I will probably be back to give it another shot as it has a lot of potential.
The food was fantastic. I shared the bucatini, the feature pork tenderloin and the squash. The bucatini was rich and cheesy, the tenderloin was cooked perfectly and was full of unique flavours and the squash was my favourite the goat cheese made it so creamy and tasty. Our server was attentive and professional. I love the decor and homey feel. I will be back again.
This new restaurant should be a welcome addition to the already bustling bar and food scene on Edmonton Trail. The inside is bright, and modern with comfy chairs. The art work is very interesting too, a nice touch. I love showcasing the local and maybe not so local talent that makes our surroundings more beautiful. We were greeted very warmly. They seemed genuinely happy to have us at their establishment. This was refreshing, as some businesses act as if they are doing the customer a favour! We sat outside, in the backyard. It was cozy and with a little work it can be a very desirable place to dine… think of the Bonterra patio, some more flowers, vines, a water feature… The music was at the right listening level , but please no rap! Please play more low key , dining music, maybe some contemporary Italian or classical music, makes for a more enjoyable dining experience. The food we ordered was delicious. I would recommend the portion sizes cranked up a notch or two. The Casonsei was really, really good but a handful more would not have left me feel a little cheated. We walked to gym worked out and golfed 18 holes people! I was saving myself for this. I would also like the food a little hotter, perhaps having it delivered right away, or plating it in preheated plates may help. For dessert we had the crostata. We could have passed on that. The crust was poorly made , and the whole thing lacked any flavour. It looked a little sad, no fruit , cream, or ice cream as an accompaniment to this pie. Dessert needs work, let’s say.The service was attentive and friendly. There was no improvements required in that department.Overall, it’s so very new, and will require a few more visits. A worthwhile risk for your dining dollars. My only suggestions , slightly bigger portions, hotter food and more sophisticated music!
