Great location, friendly service, clean, drinks are okay. Expected a lot considering the world renowned franchise but the drinks themselves were okay. Tasted like something g that could be purchased at the local grocery store. Prefer to go a few blocks away for more flavour and value.
Finally, a downtown location! (For those people looking for it, it is located above XO Bistro – same door). Overall, I find Gongcha okay compared to bubble tea places, their milk tea is just okay and I find they put a lot of ice in their drinks (I know you can lower the ice (0%) on some drinks, but on their buttery pea flower drinks, I had no choice). Their new Panda Milk Form was also not every good… for now I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
I was super pumped that to hear that this place made winter melon salty cream. Unfortunately the drink was way too sweet to be enjoyed despite my love for sweet things in general. I read the reviews beforehand and I knew it was going to be sweet, I thought it couldn’t be that bad…but it really was. My boyfriend took one sip and he almost spit it back out even though it was thoroughly mixed with the cream already. I really wanted to like the drink, but I was only left with sore disappointment.
The milk foam beverages are really well done. I would also recommend the bbt beverages (I personally adjust ice and sweetness down). I’m not a big fan of BBT but, for some reason I really enjoy visiting Gong Cha. There are some drawbacks with this location – very small area, not really a place where large groups can hang out and parking is an issue. If you are already in the area or dining at XO, I would strongly recommend a visit.
YES GOOD LORD, THANK YOU. Winter melon is slowly creeping into every single bubble tea menu, and Ive decided to expand my stomach for all; Which leads me to this dramatic climax of the long awaited chance to try Gong Cha. The two girls that helped us out were nice, friendly and efficient. Their seemed to be a lack of professionalism from the lady downstairs. Blatantly scolding the girls while customers were clearly seated right beside the fiasco.Wasnt a great look. Parking is also a pain, but if you dont mind walking or paying for parking, its situated right in front of an Impark. Though theres only a few bar seats and one table along the side, the space is small and more of a pick up and go spot.Milk Foam Wintermelon Drink ($4.5) 5/5 Straight off the bat, the standard medium size is tiny compared to everywhere else. About the same size as the regular @Cha Time. The winter melon is honestly the best Ive had so far. Definitely sweeter than anywhere else but I love how rich and thick the milk foam is. Mixing it with the tea, the taste is richer and you do get a hit of mellow bittnerness. For this drink you cant alter the amount of sweetness, but if youre a fan of the wintermelon from Dream or Gama, get this and I promise youll love it. Earl Grey Milk Tea ($5.5) I liked this one, the earl grey was a nice surprise. We adjusted this to 30% sweet and it was just right. The only downer which seems to be a popular opinion is how hard/chewy the tapioca pearls were. Good thing I dont usually get my drinks with pearls. 100% recommend.
My boyfriend and I went to Sabor for dinner and decided to drop by Gong Cha afterwards since it’s only a minute walk away (across from City Center). I had wanted to try Gong Cha out for a while now since it had already opened in Vancouver a couple months before. Gong Cha is upstairs and is a very small bubble tea cafe with only one side table that stretches to fit about 7 bar stools. The menu is on the wall and pretty self explanatory (resembled coco’s and cha time where you adjust the amount of ice and the sweetness level for the drinks). I went for their signature drink which was their Milk Foam Wintermelon Drink ($4.50). I was told that I couldn’t adjust the sweetness level for this drink and it turned out to be way too sweet for my liking (and I did mix the foam with the drink). My brother ordered the Milk Foam Black Forest ($5) and it only came in the smaller size (and you also can’t adjust the sweetness for this drink). It was more of a dessert than a drink that consisted of a generous amount of toppings such grass jelly and tapioca, topped with milk foam as well. It wasn’t as sweet as the milk foam winter melon so I enjoyed this one more but there wasn’t anything particularly special about it. It kind of just tasted like grass jelly to be honest (I’m a big fan of grass jelly but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for a drink). Overall, I didn’t think Gong Cha was anything special. I definitely prefer Chatime or Coco’s over Gong Cha.
Was excited when this place opened, another franchise from Asia. Lets start with the location and enviroment, parking is horrible, there is almost none, or you have to walk many blocks. Theres no tables, just a small bar table with like 6 seats. Its grab and go encouraged..Their milk teas are not comparable to their competitors, id say its 6/10. Using cocos as a scale 8/10. Even chatime has better milk teas. The only thing i find good is their oolong teas, which is like a Chrysanthemum tea. Since no other bbt locations offer this, if this is your type of drink, definitely try the one here. Other than that, go to cocos or chatime.
