First time here. We arrived pretty early on a Friday so it was easy to find a good table and the service was quick. Good atmosphere and really good sandwiches! Fries were good but cold. The dip for the Parmesan fries was really good. As it got busier, the service got a little slower, but I guess thats to be expected … Well be back.

August 28, 2017Like the Reviewer FoodE, I keep trying to love Mercers too! I went again as part of a party of 8 for a colleague’s retirement party. I have reviewed this restaurant before and gave it a 2.0, but, that was when it first opened. I have been here multiple times since then due to the location to my office and usually by invitation. The one constant is slow service. However, the food has improved greatly over the last few years so I thought another review was in order. It took about 1/2 hour for us all to get drinks, mine was wrong so it took a bit longer for me to get mine. The orders varied, poke bowl, Reuben sandwiches, appetizers. I ordered the hummus plate which has been my go-to here because of the inconsistencies I’ve experienced with other dishes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. The hummus plates I’ve had there before (and was looking forward to) came with a huge scoop of nice thick hummus where you can still see some small chunks of chick pea and lots of some type of bread and dipping veggies. The version of the hummus plate I received yesterday was a pale comparison. It came with a small pool of drippy hummus (like a supermarket brand) topped with a small mound of some type of shredded pickle, some snap peas, large slices of red pepper, a couple of slices of toasted bread and, most perplexing, two small pieces of cold, unseasoned, previously grilled corn on the cob? It just didn’t make sense. I looked around and the other plate of hummus was also composed thusly so I guess it was deliberate and they didn’t just run out of other veggies to plate. No one consumed the corn on either plate. I took one bite and finding cold unseasoned corn unpalatable, pushed it aside. I hope the next time I am invited to Mercer, I can find another go-to that will remain consistent time after time or, as a request (plea), bring back the good hummus plate!!

We had a pleasant experience at Mercer Tavern. We came on a game night and were able to sit down immediately. Service was a little slow considering the amount of people in the restaurant. The Mac and cheese was quite flavourful and comparable to others on the market. My chicken sandwich was lacking a bit of flavour but was good overall. The parm fries were okay but not worth the additional $3.50. My partner had the fried chicken and he said it was spicy but juicy. We were slightly disappointed because the menu online was significantly larger than the one we were given. Overall, we had a good experience.

This place has such high potential, yet still fails to deliver every time. I’ve been here about a half dozen times and now will only go for a drink at best. Mercer’s has everything going for it except the food. The look, feel, atmosphere, the crowd it attracts, and now the location! But if you are looking for a meal you will leave disappointed. It seems all they did before the opening of Roger’s Place was hire more staff.

Great location, good prices for drinks. Had the MFC- so good! Fries were super good and most amazing were the pickles. I would seriously but a jar if I could.

I keep trying to love Mercers because its choice location and has a good modern pub feel, but it really is mediocre. Once the arena opens I am kind hoping they will redo their menu or something because its a shame for one of the front a center restaurants to what will soon be one of the most bustling places in the city to be such a snooze food-wise.
