Worst experience at Mercers since it opened. I usually really enjoy having a bite here. This time I can say I wont be back for a long time. They were out of the first beer I order. Then takes my order for my second choice and comes back to say they were also out of that one then when I order my food, theyre also out of the Rueben sandwich (made with house smoked meat)…couldnt believe this wasnt mentioned before leaving us to look at the menu but also just shocked you can be out of everything I ordered. Also, waitress forgot no onions and the fries came out cool. Just disappointing on every front

On the tail end of the trendy 104 St hides a very underrated pub. In one of the older buildings in Downtown Edmonton, sitting neatly across from the ever growing Rexall Stadium, Mercer has the prime spot in between the bustle. With the rustic decor of strong wood pillars throughout this spacious room, mixed between uneven tables and bar stools. The spot carries out a casual and hip vibe.We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday for a late lunch, which was perfect timing for a lazy Sunday meal considering how it led to basically the whole space being to ourselves. Greeted by a couple of the hostess, who followed to tell us to sit wherever we liked. Man behind the grand bar came over with the menus, who in return was evidently our server for the duration. Pub style service, fast – friendly – casual! No complaints.Poutine – ($12.50) – I cant tell if it was the Chicken Gravy or the extremely gooey cheese that made this dish SO GOOD. Fries were fresh and crunchy, the cheese was so soft and moist and the incredible cheese pull youll get from your first forkful is enough to make you want to shovel the whole thing into your mouth. Must order!Mercer Fried Chicken – ($16.00) – Okay first off the bat, why the heck have I not tried this sooner?! AND What readers are you for not suggesting this magic to me sooner?! The chicken, oh my god. Have you had fried chicken where its so moist it basically falls off the bone? And yet the skin is still crispy and crunchy, while the added sauce dont penetrate the skin to make it any less crispy? Yeah – I havent either, until NOW. The mercer sauce that glistened on top looked epic. Tasted tangy with a little bit of heat. Potato salad and Slaw were mediocre but gosh, the chicken, YES.Babas Perogies – ($12.0) – Wasnt impressed with this dish to be honest. The filling was bland, added addition of the caramelized onions didnt help flavor it either. Having to scrape the sour cream and pick every piece of scallion to each bite to have somewhat of a flavor pounce, which didnt end up delivering. The sausages were good though. Wont be ordering this one again.Enjoyed our eat in! 2 out of 3 dishes aint so bad, will definitely be back to try some more out! Speaking of which, Mercer Fried Chicken is on specials on Tuesdays. – Youre welcome.
