It was only okay.I had a Crispy Chicken which was tasty and fresh the fries were bland but hot. My partner had the Steak Sandwich which she said was cold. We had the crab cakes to start which were decent. The service was fast and the waitress was friendly. Despite it being full we had our food quickly. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy its small and loud. I useda Groupon which gave me a 12 dollar discount off the bill. I feel the regular price of the menu is a bit pricey for pub food. 17 dollars for a 6 ounce stead sandwich and 16.50 for a chicken burger. I prefer Hawkeyes which is a block away who sell better food for half the price. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return to the Hat.
Food and atmosphere was great! Was our first time there, we were a group of 8. The server recommended some items for appys, and entrees. Everyone loved their meals. We had the prawns, sausage bits and chicken morsels for the appys. Most had burgers for their entree, I had mussels and crab cakes! All awesome. Server did great since she was the only working the floor and bar. Highly recommended!
This location is awesome, it has great atmosphere with a casual vibe; great cocktails & food items! Calamari was very colourful as well as the Crab Cakes, they’re bacon Caesar is deff the best I’ve had EVER. That Maple Bacon rimmed glass is a hit! Nice & chewy, as if the strip of bacon included wasn’t enough! Definitely gots to try all other menu items!
First and last visit to this restaurant on Sunday Nov. 1. Arrived at 6 pm, not another diner during our time there! The signature item, fish and chips was terrible with soggy batter and French fries are much better elsewhere. Beef dip not too bad, but soup with it was very watery. Waitress was pleasant and we felt sorry for her with no customers. Very disappointing!
Went here for lunch today – sawone of the waitresses (think I heard her being called Joanne)take the table towel used to clean tables, take off hershoe, wipe the bottom of her foot, then wipe the calf of her other leg(possibly her foot too but I had to look away), then proceed to use the samecloth to wipe the tables!!! I will NEVER return!! Disgusting……
Great place for dependable burgers and snacks. Good atmosphere but nothing out of the ordinary. Will be back for a visit since it is convenient for a good bite after work.
Loud tatses, mediocre service, and a good atmosphere. Pretty decent experience all in all. the hat has the boon of being in a pretty optimal location on Jasper in a nicely sized space. They keep the space simple without is feeling bare or empty, and the space has a cool stamped tin ceiling feature (but don’t look too closely as it was pretty poorly installed with plenty of fit and finish issues). The server was fine though she didn’t come around often enough and we had to wait much to long to square up with the bill. But of course its all about the food. The hats menu was pretty tantalizing, Some tasty sounding items, but in the end I went with a burger and shared a poutine with the lady friend. the poutine was pretty par for the course, nothing special. But the burger and accompanying salad were pretty darn tasty. One word of caution regarding the food though, the dishes were all very strong in flavour. This is not the place for you if you are in the mood for dishes with subtlety and complexity in your meal, everything is loud and in your face, like each ingredient is fighting for pallet supremacy. This can be a good thing at times, frankly I would rather have a dish that is overly strong than bland, it all depends what you like/ are in the mood for. Its of like club beats for your mouth , albeit one of the good club beats.I’ll go back next time I am in the mood for a bawdy dish.
