Checked out Wishbone with a friend for downtown dining week. Ambience was nice and simple but had kept the original interior when it was previously MRKT. Dishes were a tad lighter than expected but left satisfied. Downtown dining week meant more tapa-like dishes. Interesting take on dishes and acidity was on point. Would recommend their house-made cola but pass on the pistachio ice cream dessert unless you have affinity for the liquorice aftertaste.

A downtown dining week trip took me to Wishbone, which is owned by the same owners as Three Boars Eatery. My friends had all recommended it for downtown dining week, so I was excited when a friend and I decided to go at the last minute on a Friday evening. We got there around 9pm and the restaurant was mostly full but we immediately got a table. I immediately noticed their atmosphere as I walked in. The music was playing retro late 90’s to early 2000’s pop songs, and the restaurant was loud (almost too loud, but not quite!). The woody decor created a really homey and casual atmosphere in the restaurant. I really liked the atmosphere. For the food itself, we got their dining menu option A and ordered their Old Bae fries on the side. Their dishes for option A included their lobster roll, fried bread with salted butter, ice cream, and a couple oysters to try. Overall I found the food to be oily and salty. I did enjoy it, but I could definitely see a lot of people not enjoying the food because of this. The highlights were the fries which had lots of flavour and a nice mayo sauce that complemented the fries well. The lobster roll was interesting and seemed to have a different taste with every bite. It is also decorated in hickory sticks! The ice cream was a bit of a let-down. Vanilla tasted fine but Pistachio tasted a bit fake.Service was friendly and quick, and our server tried to interact with us throughout the meal. I liken this place to a tapa place. You will never be full leaving this place (unless you either have a tiny stomach or spend a lot), but you come to this place to enjoy a good time with friends and family and share some food while talking with others. I personally didn’t find anything fascinating that would make me want to re-visit this place, but it is a solid addition to the Jasper Avenue scene. All in all, recommended.

Off Jasper Ave within the triplex harboring some of my other favorite eateries including Red Star and Lock Stock welcomes a new addition, Wishbone. Coming from the same family as Three Boars and Farrow, Wishbone has a similar casual and inviting atmosphere as Three Boars but with a more elevated lounge feel. Wood paneling running wall to wall, with potted plants and simplistic frames on floating shelves that add to the minimalistic decal. I sought shelter in this alcove on a chilly Saturday evening and was blown away from ambiance, food and service. Only lingering thought would to pencil in a luncheon asap to see the beauty from the skylight mixing with the beautiful wooded walls. I recommend stopping by this gem.Old Bae Kennebec Fries – ($5) – Its paired with Kewpie Mayo so you know your girl was going to order this first thing. Fries were seasoned with a special blend, which was salty and a tad sweet. Really enjoyed!Chicken Wings – ($12) – Chili honey glaze tossed with additional spices that gave a nice lingering kick. Crunchy and meaty pieces that left your fingers sticky where youll obviously HAVE to lick the extra sauce and juices off.Lobster Roll – ($14) – THE LOBSTER ROLLS WERE TOPPED WITH HICKORY STICKS GUYS. The brioche bun was buttered and toasted, stuffed to the T with generous pieces of lobster. I havent had a lobster roll since Seattle and honestly, satisfied. Soooooo goooooood.Onion Pakora – ($7) – Probably our least favorite dish of the evening, this one came out quite a bit after the first three, and after the initial first few bites it just started getting more oily and heavy. Guilty of ordering this because of how instagrammable it looked on the feed but taste wise, this dish seemed to taste more like a blooming onion.Tete De Chochon – ($15) – A fancied up pork croquette, in a really good way. Presentation was A+, captivating presence with precise attention to detail, everything on the plate came together beautifully. The breaded pork was shaped into a rectangular block with some frisee, berries and a dab of mustard cream to add some beautiful colors. This pork patty was moist and juicy in the inside, being battered and fried and not retaining any heaviness from the oil is admirable. The mustard cream was not heavy and didnt overpower the flavors from the pork either. All in all, this was delicious. Fair warning, there were some crispy additions on top of the dish, assuming it was deep fried pork rinds we dove in molars and all, bad idea. Felt like chewing on bones, so just.. Fork it away.

Their fried chicken sandwich and burger is amazing! My friends and I fell in love with them. Their cocktails were good and reasonably priced. An interesting option that they have is you tell them what type of drink youre in the mood for and they will create a new drink for you. The service was great. Overall highly recommend.

LOVE IT. I have been here a few times since they opened. Lunch and dinner service was equally amazing. The knowledgeable staff explain each dish in detail and the pairings for the dishes/meal were fun! The dishes come out gradually, and as a result the meal becomes an experience rather than a rushed task. The environment is warm, service friendly, and the food is nurturing. This is a place I would come back to over and over again for a night out, where I can have overdue gatherings with friends and family.

Okay kids- I did both lunch and dinner here. Totally different vibes.Lunch with some work buddies was laid back and a pretty set menu. I did the double burger- likely the best in Edmonton, possibly even surpassing the ace burger at OJ’s and the soup which was perfect. Fries wasn’t an option.. dinner with the old ball and chain! We did the chef tasting menu and had a sherry flight- I have never had sherry before and the server was really good at explaining it and going into the flavours. We had oysters two ways, and maybe it is the FAT KID in me, but I loved the baked oyster. We also had the beets, which were great, normally I don’t like blue cheese but it was a nice touch, we had sea bream (sp?) I think and that was cooked perfectly. We had both the deserts, I though both were great. Price wise for two sherry tastings, a couple glass of wine, two cocktails and two tasting menus it was very reasonable. Our server was outstanding and explained every dish which help me at least understand what I was stuffing in my face. I would suggest checking out Wishbone for both lunch and dinner.Be safe and have fun kids.

Moms Fried Bread, Beets, Turnip, PEI Mussels, Welsh Rarebit, Tete de Cochon, Beef Striploin, Beef Skewer, Chicken Wings, Baked OystersWishbone was an appealing choice to eat at because it shared the name of a tv show about an adorable dog. The food here though…woof. Meal, started off good with fried bread with some salted butter on the side, bread was fluffy and probably one of the better dishes of the evening…for real. Beets were meh, just had blue cheese thrown at it with some charred onion. Turnips were soaked in buttermilk/hazelnut dressing and had nori on top which was pretty cool but didnt really taste that great. The mussels were pretty decent, with a sherry wine and charred tomato sauce. The chorizo in the dish was a great addition as well. Welsh rarebit was an interesting dish as it was a piece of bread with melted cheese on top, the addition of mushroom and cured egg yolk had good flavor. Cochon had mustard cream, saskatoon syrup, and a crispy pig ear on top. Not that great. Same goes for the beef striploin which was basically sliced beef on top of toasted bread with a large piece of gai lan on it. Just terrible. Skewers and wings were unsatisfactory. Baked oyster was surprising as it had a piece of chinese sausage on it…idk. We also had beignets for dessert and it was probably the smallest and most expensive dessert ive ever had. Common theme here.Wishbone is on Jasper and 105 and is forgettable. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgable but the order and speed at which our food came out was pure shit. 2 Skewers were missed on our original order and one came out after 20 minutes, the other another 15 minutes after that. 15 minute wait for dessert as well. Who wants to wait that long for dessert?Sal says: Just Skip It@geoffs2000 says: Wishbone. More like Wish We Postponed. When you go to a restaurant where you expect the food not to fill you, the least that one can ask for is that the food is above average. Maybe we should have tried the $250 caviar? #yeg #yegfood #food #foodie #foodporn #foodgasm #foodpics #foodstagram #instafood #delicious #hungry #yummy #dinner #lunch
