I am a bit surprised the ratings for this spot arent higher, there is always a huge line for the soup it is beloved ! Im a big soup broth fan, and theirs tastes great. I always get the chicken noodle soup, I love soup at lunch and dont think many spots downtown offer good chicken soup. I love that they have a great condiment selection as well. Hey make their own chili oil which is so good, I add a bit of their vinegar to the broth to give it that extra level of depth as well as some sesame seeds. You have to ask for limes and chili oil specifically from the server, the other condiments I mentioned are self serve on the soup side. After that I go to the other side and use the chili garlic paste as well. I dont think the broth needs the condiments but I would add that stuff at home, it just elevates it to the next level. I like the assortment of veggies and green toppings (haha just 1 carrot though). Giant portions too. Yea the meat isnt the best, but its also a restaurant in a fast food court … so it is what I would expect from that kind of a spot.
Went to Koya Japan in Bankers Hall as it was close to where I was shopping. Usually I go to the one in the Core on the top floor. I got the Beef Teriyaki. What a mistake. I asked and paid for extra vegetables (bean sprouts) and beef. While I got the beef, the gentleman taking my order had to remind the cook for the bean sprouts as I guess in Bankers Hall it doesn’t usually come with bean sprouts. Then when it came to asking for sauce, what a laugh. I asked for two scoops, originally only got one and a terrible look when I asked for the second, well needless to say, its basically colored water! Threw 3/4’s of my meal out. Will never go to the one in Bankers Hall again. Now I understand why their soup side was so busy!!
Went to the one I’m bankers hall, based on high recommendation from a coworker. Ordered their brisket rice noodles with all the toppings. My coworker mentioned they sometimes have daikon, but I didn’t get any when I went. Too bad. It was $10 for a bowl and you get a good serving that was quite filling, I must say….I actually couldn’t finish box I was so full.I would come back for their rice noodle soups for sure. Rumour is they taste a lot better during weekday lunch hours.Only 4/5 based on inconsistency
Reminds me of Edo of Japan, but without the trademark sauce that makes all the difference. The sauce they used was runny and the beef was a little too thick for my liking.
Super long line ups during the lunch hours. The beef brisket noodle soup has good broth with lots of noodles and veggies. A good place go to place for chicken or beef brisket noodles. They recently discontinued the smaller size soup and have raises their prices a few times in the past 6 months a bowl of beef soup is about $12.
They misplaced my order and didn’t realize until three other orders went by, and two of those three they got wrong. One forgot the rice and his solution was to just heap a bunch on top and give it back. Zero apologies.Had the chicken/beef yakisoba ($10) and wished I didn’t. The beef was stringy and the chicken tasted off. Finally, the grill chef did not use gloves and handled raw meat with bare hands without washing before or after. Yeah it’s fast food, but this place is a joke.
Typical Edo style; decent lunch. It has been a while since we ventured to the food court at Banker’s, so off we went for shopping/eating.Koya now replaces the spot where Sukiyaki used to reside. I can’t remember what Sukiyaki used to charge for their teriyaki beef, but I found the price Koya charges to be consistent with vendors of this type (< $8 for teriyaki beef).I was greeted by the cashier, and then waited patiently for my food. It didn’t take long at all, no more than 5 minutes. Our table was on the opposite side of the food court, given the distance my lunch was still hot when I began devouring it.The veggies were cooked well, ample beef, and perfectly cooked rice it made for a delicious lunch. However, if my memory serves me correctly I think the serving size was just a tad smaller than Sukiyaki’s.I wouldn’t mind trying the other items on their menu, like Ramen. Overall, given that it is fast food, the pricing is reasonable, the lunch I received was cooked fresh and hot, and overall it was quite yummy.
