Food: Sadly, I was in a rush and could only have drinks while I was here. The latte was extremely rich and creamy. Very delicious and although decaf, it was very flavorful and bold. The hot chocolate was rich and not too sweet. It was a great drink for a cold day. I can see the care and thought that goes into the drinks and in making them. 5/5Atmosphere: The first thing you notice when you walk in this caf and this location are the plants. I felt like I was in a greenhouse. I love plants and anything green so this was a perfect spot for me. It was extremely modern yet cozy and warm. From the light fixtures to the feature wall of plants, this place is gorgeous. So refreshing and bright in contrast the a bleak day outside. Wood panels and interior compliment the white and green fixtures and plants. 5/5Full Review: thelocalepicure.caInstagram: @thelocalepicure

Since I moved back to Calgary in the middle of April I have run across Phil & Sebastian coffee at various locations so I thought i’d try out a Phil & Sebastian cafe. As my quest is for lunch places downtown I chose the Stephen Avenue location. I’m afraid things didn’t get off to a good start. I asked what drip coffee was available and was told Columbian and Costa Rican. I was also immediately advised that if I took milk in my coffee the Columbian would make the milk curdle. I heard this recently in a coffee shop in another city and I find it hard to believe as I have been drinking a lot of coffee for a very long time and have never had that happen with any coffee unless the milk was bad. In any case, I chose the Costa Rican as I am coming to the conclusion that Columbian isn’t my favorite coffee. I also ordered the arugula chicken salad. There was some confusion with the order (you can read all about it on my blog) which left me feeling a bit awkward. The salad itself was not too bad although as I worked my way into it I discovered (as I had suspected by the speed of delivery) that it had been mixed some time before. As a result some of the arugula was starting to be wilted and mushy as will happen with most greens when they have been in salad dressing for a while. Arugula is so much better when it’s crisp and even if the majority of the salad was mixed in advance the arugula could be added when an order was placed. So altogether not a great experience although I will return to give it another try. I will also be doing some research about coffee and milk curdling. I look forward to being able to give a better review in the future. lacafeinablog.com
