One of my regular stops on the lunch rotation. My favorite reason to go is the baking. I think they do a pretty good job. The cookies are really good. The hot lunches are great too. Good variety. Always something new, great selection. Had the German rouladen the other day and it was bang on. My only complaint is price. But what is cheap these days downtown for lunch?

Very clean and aesthetically appealing place so I tried the Kung Pao chicken. There was no Kung and certainly no Pao. Bland and empty like many of my ex-lovers. The kids warming up the pre-made, portion controlled package of food I ordered seemed to act as though they were under the strict control of an overbearing tyrant head chef – afraid to deviate from any instructions they were previously dictated. They need to be freed from the institutional shackles before the Kung Pao can really become reality. Go forth and make that Kung Pao my son!! Be free and delicious! I will return!

When this place first opened the food was really good. My coworkers and I would come all the time. However, it has progressively gotten worse and I don’t come here for lunch anymore. I only stop by when they are serving Miso salmon/cod and occasionally for their baked goodies. They used to have the most amazing danishes that were so fresh the puff pastry would be really crispy and flaky but it’s been a long time since I’ve had some like that. The bakery is okay, it’s just not amazing anymore. However, I do like how they update their menu online so you’ll know the menu ahead of time.

Great Idea, Poor Execution. The downtown SAIT culinary campus is yet another great idea poorly executed (There are so many of them in downtown Calgary. Sigh!).Good real food (not junk) at reasonable prices is badly needed at lunchtime in the downtown core. Some of the food here is quite good, and the quality is fairly consistent (for which they should be commended considering that the cooks are learning). But the service! Ick! One would expect that food service would be an essential and important part of the curriculum at a culinary institute. Apparently not. Here we have a bunch of serving pans randomly laid out with food mixtures in them, one or two words on a sign beside them, and a posse of cook-like persons assembled at each serving station, not one member of which can provide any information about the food in the pans (or speak English at all in many cases). You don’t need half a dozen people getting in each others way and contradicting each other at each service station. One (or two at most) would do if he, she or they spoke English. Most importantly, that person or those persons should know everything about what they are serving, like what’s in it. Alternatively, you could post a small sign beside each pan with a list of ingredients. Then it wouldn’t matter if the server spoke English or not. People could just point at what they wanted. Everyone understands pointing. This is important and necessary information to people with allergies, sensitivities or health issues, but everybody wants to know what they’re eating, just because everybody doesn’t like some things and may not be in the mood for some things at some times. It’s also needlessly hard to assemble a meal. With one or two side dishes at each serving station you often have to make the rounds of the place and line up multiple times. How about putting the side dishes all together in one place (or offer all of them at each station, for that matter). A side salad, at least, would be nice option (and by that I do not mean a quart plastic box of raw veggies with or without meat, eggs and/or cheese and a pint of dressing). The prime rib is my favourite offering here. Nearly always available and nearly always well prepared. It would be nice if I could get something to go with it. Have to go to another vendor to round out the meal if I’m hungry enough for a meal.

SAIT CULINARY CAMPUS IS A BUSY PERSONS BEST FRIEND !. I do not live in Calgary but when on Stephan Ave on business, you better believe I mean business. I start my day at Culinary Campus get this thing called Breakfast Croissant. Omelette, gruyere cheese all buttery goodness. This thing comes to go (win).I travel with a cooler in my vehicle. I make a stop back at Culinary Campus last thing for Butter Chicken, Lasagne and Marsala, all sorts of stuff for my deep freeze. People always say what a wonderful cook I am lol

The pastrys at the Culinary Canpus are to die for! I particularly like the apple Danish! Every time we go the staff is so nice to my son and give him an extra little treat (this visit a carrot cake ball) and they are always polite! I hope to try their lunch soon but I always seem to miss it as I’m downtown at odd hours
