Some traditions are not worth keeping. Thought I could count on the stately elegance of a long standing icon. The service non-existent, unless we were supposed to go to the bar to order food. The drink was good, food only fair. The chairs were filthy. On the brighter side the washroom was lovely.
Though it’s a beautiful hotel the oak room was thoroughly unimpressive. The waitress was aggressive and unknowledgeable. She brought us an old fashion and a Manhattan but they were the exact same drink without any syrup or sweet vermouth (I watched him pour the same attempt at both into two classes from one shaker). And we were completely forgotten about. The chips they serve complimentary were as hard as rocks. I’m very disappointed.
Beautiful setting. Lovely decor. Decent service but the food was almost inedible. Ordered beef sliders that came on buns so stale and hard we couldn’t finish (they did give us 10% off). The halibut fritters were just little pieces of fish – poorly seasoned but with a delicious curry sauce.
Good food. Slow service. Might be due to all the pre-Christmas events going on at the Palliser Hotel.
Awesome. Although its not the kind of place to go to after work to catch up with friends, but every now and then I pop by for a few drinks after work. Try their Mpscow Mule…best in Calgary.
A Classic. The Palliser has endeared us since we got married there back in 1998. We always keep coming back for special occasions to the Oak Room. The Oak Room is very elegant and the service is impeccable. The food is delicious and consistent. Everyone who works there knows us and knows what we want to order to our liking. Our 9 year old son loves it there because it is spacious for him to play on the floor (they provide toys), the atmosphere is quiet and kid friendly, though I don’t recommend it if your kids are too young or rowdy and noisy. If you like a quiet, elegant atmosphere, this place is #1. I recommend the Steak Sandwich very much and the Tea Service (between 2pm and 4pm) is top notch!
