Township is an addition to the group that brings us Red Water, Rush, and the Butcher and the Baker next door. With a casual fare vibe, I found the atmosphere fairly friendly, and a great option to catch up with friends or grab drinks at after work. I tried the fried chicken mac and cheese, and the Kobe beef burger, which I thought were pretty tasty! The burger was cooked nice and juicy, with a caramelized onion spread that complimented the burger nicely. I thought the fries were crispy, and may have benefitted with an aioli or sauce to balance the texture. The fried chicken was cooked well, and the crispy chicken skin was a great treat combined with the hearty mac and cheese dish. I found it a little heavy near the end, but I guess that’s to be expected with that type of course. Overall, a good experience that should be considered for a casual dining option.
Visited during lunch hour and had the ahi tuna burger with fries. The tuna burger was not appetizing and I did not eat more than a few bites of it. The bun was hard and crusty and the tuna tasted fishy – beyond its best before date for sure. The fries were good, as was the service. Not sure I will return any time soon.
Thursday 10 bucks burger is pretty good deal, after add cheese, bacon, and mushrooms($2 each add-on) its super delicious!! Fries is great, very crisp!
Not a bad spot that has taken over the old Redwater Grille. The menu is a bit more modern and is trying to push the limits of a traditional spot.It highlights Calgary’s diverse food culture and scene, but i’m not sure if it hits the right notes food wise.Cobb Salad – Different take on a cob, has blue cheese, fine egg, real bacon bits, avacado, a few cherry tomatoes and some radish (nice touch). It tasted fine, I added chicken to make it a meal, the dressing was good, a bit too much on it, lost the salad taste in it, but wasn’t a fan of the blue cheese, even thought it paired well. Not bad, but not a go to spot.
I had a business lunch here today and must say I wasn’t impressed with a few items that would make other restaurant owners cringe. We sat at the bar and got a good view of how the service and staff worked.1.) We witnessed 3 beers that were poured and sat for approximately 7-8 minutes before the serving waitress vigorously stirred them with a straw to give the beer a healthy head again before serving them to the customers.2.) When my colleagues’ beer had emptied, we asked for another round and the female bar tender proceeded to take his existing glass to the tap and re-filled it3.) Both our appetizers and lunch were paraded around our general area being offered to different tables each time before reaching our seats.4.) The dough on the chicken pot pie was still raw on the sides and edges of the main course. Similar to my last experience here, it to resulted in a dish that was undercooked and had to be re-done.Otherwise a nice place that just needs a little more discipline to become a higher class establishment that the prices suggest.
Service and food are good for lunch peak hour. A bit noisy for group conversation but it’s pretty normal for the lunch hour anywhere. The steak was properly cooked for medium rare request. Township salad was refreshing. vivacova.com
We heard that this was a great new place but our first visit left us unimpressed and given how many choices there are in the city, it would be a long time before we would visit again. Great selection on the menu but our food was over seasoned (salty). The service was the killer though.. no one helped us for over 10 minutes after being seated and we actually had to get up and flag down a server.
