Not only do they produce a great menu but the people will make your experience even more memorable… with an ambiance that’s as warm and welcoming as the staff. The teamwork and collaborative culture is evident in the passion each member has for their role. I highly recommend sitting at the bar where you get to see all the action and chat with the chefs (forewarning to anyone who gets hot easily because you’ll be less than 7 feet from the grills and ovens and a half dozen heat lamps). You know it’s a great place to eat and a special kind of culture when one of the chefs who had the day off comes in for dinner with his girlfriend. Bon appetite
What a wonderful spot for pre show dining, or date night feasting. We had the blind chefs menu. The wine was great, the menu was surprising and delicious and the pairings were perfect. Had fun and was fed very well!
Absolutely amazing, wish I could rate higher! We went out for my brother’s 18th birthday and we couldn’t have gone to a better place. Great atmosphere and decorations with open kitchen. Server (wish I could remember her name!) was fun, well educated on the menu as well as very patient – I have several allergies and another person with us had just as many different dietary restrictions and she and the kitchen were incredibly understanding and accommodating. We weren’t at all rushed despite our later reservation and at the end of the night all of the staff had signed a birthday card for my brother.
Came here for the very first time for lunch, it was kinds hidden in a brick building, you might miss it if you were particularly looking for it. Pass the train tracks on 1st Street SW and 6th Ave. Recommend making a reservation which I did but place filled up quick. Tables of 2 were quite close together and didn’t give much privacy to conversations but service was good. We decide on the Big Taste menu which was on for this week for $25. Comes with soup or salad, 2 different entrees and 2 choice of desserts. I got the tomato based soup which was good. They brought out the wrong salad for my friend and when we advised that was not what it said on the menu they quickly exchanged it for the right one. We both got the Sweet Chili Albacore Tuna came with Warm Potato Kimchi Salad, Maple Grilled Bok Choy, Gochujang Hollandaise. This was the most delicious thing had in awhile. I didn’t see this dish on the regular menu and I hope they end up adding it on there. Both the bread pudding and chocolate tart dessert was yummy. The tart was very chocolatey and rich. Totally recommend checking out this place. Should try it out while Big Taste is going on.
My husband and I went to Workshop for their Valentine’s Day special menu, and we absolutely loved it!! The lobby setting is so unique, and the industrial look is beautiful. When we arrived we got complimentary sparkling wine in the cutest glasses. For the evening, it was a four course set menu priced at $85 per person. We decided to do one of each so we could taste everything on the menu. For the main course we both opted for the Ages Ribeye. The food was incredible, and the mix of flavors was out of this world. Such perfect pairings. The vegetables that came with the ribeye were delicious, and I couldn’t get enough! Our server was so great and definitely made us feel like we were the only guests in the restaurant! Definitely a high end price, but so worth it and just the experience we wanted! Will definitely be back soon. carlivh.com
Seriously overpriced, even had the food been great, which it was definitely not. The tables were dirty and sticky and the chairs were extremely uncomfortable. The servers were friendly, but when asked to replace a wine glass which was very dirty, she took it away and brought the same glass of wine back, where they had tried to scrape off the lump of something from the glass, without success. Had my wife mentioned it to me before we got back to the car, I would have discussed their lack of professionalism with a manager. We later found out that another in our party also had a grubby wine glass, but no one wants to make a scene when you are in a group. The menu was very light on choices, so we all went with a chef’s choice of three courses and other than the very small appetizers, it was very poor. We were advised that the main course was duck, although it was very tough and the constituency of a cheap cut of beef, served with some legumes, which were far more tasty than the meat or poultry that was supposedly duck. The dessert was acceptable and we enjoyed getting together with friends, but it won’t ever happen again at this place. Avoid It!!
The building lobby has a really cool mix of new and old with some of the original plaster work remaining, showing un repaired cutouts from previous tenants (which for a construction guy was an awesome detail to see). The actual dining area was nice, but open and not very comfortable- from my chair I could see out into the lobby which made it feel like I was… sitting in a lobby. We did the three course meal which started with a sort of Japanese salad with scallops, which was really good. The second serving was a small piece of pork belly with nuts and pear which was insanely good (the sweet pear played well with the salty pork). The main course was Alberta lamb cooked with a mildly spicy curry/cumin sauce along with mint potatoes. I am not a big lamb or mint guy, but it was still pretty tasty. For dessert we had the chocolate torte (with maraschino cherries) which was one of the best desserts I have had in years. Portions were all standard and I left feeling full but definitely not stuffed. We did the wine pairing and all the wines went perfectly with the food… very happy we went this route. Alcohol servings were on he small side, so if you are a raging alcoholic you may need to add a few cocktails along the way.The service was excellent and I was very happy they took the time to change out the dinner and drink ware between courses. Our server did not re-fold napkins for guests who were in the washroom (which is a nice touch as it shows the server has ownership of the table) but that’s a small detail.I would recommend having the 3 course with pairing as everything we had was excellent, and the kitchen did a great job of accommodating a food allergy. The only reason I didn’t rank Workshop a full 5 was because the chairs and booth were very uncomfortable (you definitely didn’t want to stay for long) and the atmosphere lacked personality… but I can deal with that. I will definitely return.
