This place has gotten better since the food menu changed and management seems more hands on. Busier times in the evenings Friday/Saturday but can usually walk in and get a seat if you’re not a massive group. Really good sangria as well! bighairandhighheels.com
A group of us went here for dinner one Saturday evening and it was pretty busy and lively. I ordered the calamari which was nothing special, just the average fried squid. We ordered the seafood paella and the pork belly chicken paella. The paella was delicious and flavorful, everyone enjoyed their dishes! I really enjoyed the seafood paella and would order it again, I definitely wasnt disappointed with the amount of seafood in my dish. We also ordered the chorizo romesco pizza pie, which was a huge hit with the group, not a crumb was left!! Dessert was the smores churros, it was alright but the churros were hard. Very well portioned meals and left satisfied! The service was slow but the food was tasty.
Came here for breakfast with colleagues early Friday morning. No other customers – not sure if we were too early or just the bad economic times in Calgary. I had the Spanish Omelettes and it wasn’t bad. The service was good and the decors are actually nice. Looking at the prices on the menu, it wasn’t as pricey as I thought it would be.
Oh man me and my wife had an awesome night here. We stopped in after seeing some friends and didnt know what to expect. Our first bartender made us some awesome drinks and was very nice. Our next bartender Brad was amazing and so passionate about the establishment and his job. The staff made night so fun and has made us want to return asap. Plus they have wine discounts untill oil reaches a certain level. Very alberta concious. All in all best bar ive been to in a long time.
This place has definitely gone down hill since it opened. Food is terrible, would rather stop by the local Wendy’s; at least it’s priced fairly for what it is. Seems like a repeat of Belgo (same owner, no surprise), won’t be back unless it’s paid for by someone else (and likely won’t eat the garbage they call food). Really time for a new chef but I’ve been told he is a partner, which explains his tenure.
Barcelona is at the old Belgo location and we decided to come for dinner on a Thursday evening with a group of 4. I like the atmosphere a lot. It has a casual pub feel but the decor and menu makes it a little fancier. I had heard a lot of good things about their sangrias so we orders 2 pitchers to share: the blanco and Rioja. Personally I liked the blanco better but both were tasty and came with fresh fruit, the only complaint I have is that there was a lot of ice in it which obviously reduces the liquid. I ordered the grilled cheese with fries, and this dish is not for the faint of heart, it is heavy and very decadent. I also had a chance to taste the med pita and really enjoyed it. The blackened chicken may be too salty for some tastebuds but I am guilty of liking lots of salt so to me it was really good. Overall I enjoyed the food and drinks at Barcelona, although it’s not super spectacular, it is good if you’re looking to try someplace new. I feel the prices are a little much for what they are. My girlfriend got the salad and it was $8 to add chicken, and the breast of blackened chicken it came with was small (see photo)
Went for the first time 2wks ago for lunch with a friend.Only 2 tables were taken, front girl asked where I wanted to sitWOW when 2 women usually walk in one of these places on 8th Ave for lunch, they are seated in the worst place possible. 5/5 stars for service.Waitress: Very friendly and informative. 5/5 stars for the waitress.Food: Shared the Lobster Ravioli as an appetizer and the short rib dip as a main.To die for 5/5 stars for the food.
