Tried 3 different bowls from Kona poke. Only liked one of the three. All three bowls were very under seasoned. The hot paul tuna bowl was the worst of the bunch 1/10. The tuna was not fresh and must have been sitting in some acidic marinade, because it was hard, and cooked? The lava sauce was sour and not to my liking (others might feel differently), it was spicy which i like, i was hoping for much for crab for an extra $1.75. There was one small icecream scoop. The work boss bowl with salmon was slightly better but the amount of ginger in the bowl was overwhelming and with it being under seasoned did not help. I could not even taste the maple miso (which i was stoked about). 4/10. The best of the bunch was the hot paul salmon with spicy mayo bowl. Salmon was better than the tuna (but i didn’t enjoy the tuna at all). Spicy mayo sauce was what you would expect from most spicy salmon rolls from most Japanese restaurants (siracha mayo) 6/10), but i still found it under seasoned/bland and very one dimensional. I’ve had much better poke bowls in town, fresher fish, more protein, no over charge for crab, better balance of flavors and better value. This is a non return visit for me.
I was so excited when I saw the signage up and eagerly awaited the opening only to be disappointed. The ingredients were all decently fresh and tasty, and I would legit eat here 3 TIMES A WEEK minimum if they made the following adjustments: 1. They marinated their tuna in the traditional Hawaiian poke style 2. Bigger portions of fish. I got a bowl during their $5 opening promo so hopefully that’s why the protein was so skint, but I’m not ready to spend $16 to see if that’s the case.
Got a spicy poke bowl with spicy mayo (build your own). Had a decent amount of heat! Was hoping for more meat but unfortunately, not every place can give as much as restaurants in Hawaii. All the veggies tasted fresh and the meat had great texture. Will try again but seeing if its worth spending extra for the scoop of meat.
Fresh fresh fresh! Love all the fresh ingredients and all the options to create a delicious bowl. I ordered the white rice with red cabbage, ahi tuna, salmon, spicy poke, lava & spicy mayo sauce and furikake, ginger, and green onion. I made it quite spicy with both those sauces and i really enjoyed it. Plenty of seats inside to stay and eat as well. Really enjoyed my poke bowl and cant wait to mix and match and try another bowl.
I’m surprised the rating for this place is 2.9. Maybe it’s because it hasn’t had that many reviews. I quite like this place a lot. It healthy and fresh and being a diabetic it gives me a nice carb-free option that’s not just a plain old salad. Staff has always been very friendly and I can switch things up and mix and match flavours and toppings. This has become my go-to place at lunch when I’m working.
Glad a second location opened up and was opened during the weekends cuz the first location in the plus 15 is just too far from my office to go at lunch and have heard it’s just too busy. This place had ample seating and easily to park on the street on the weekend and it was not too busy. I liked how you can create your own bowl and I like how the ingredients tasted and it was fresh. Just be aware the price of your meal can add up if you add a drink and add extra ingredients. My husband and I spend $35 on our meals together.
Delicious and fresh! Good service – they happily explained the items and made recommendations. Easy lunch. Prices are pretty comparable to area restaurants. Highly recommended! Yum
