We have established ourselves as somewhat of regulars here. The food tastes so good, it’s almost addicting. Highly recommend all foodie’s to give it a shot!

Awesome experience…great food! Especially for the people who love spices. It was our first time at an Ethiopian restaurant and the experience was good..we will definitely try again.

I joined a supper club outing to Marathon. It was my first time having Ethiopian in 10+ years. I have fond memories of the bread, the crazy toppings with all the spices, lentils, and unique flavours, so I knew I would enjoy this one.The restaurant is easy to find, right on 10th in Kensington, but the door is off to one side which is great – keeps street noise and annoying breezes away from the other diners. Upon entering the first thing I noticed was the warm colours and rich woods everywhere. It’s very inviting and cozy. Our group was seated, conveniently, at a series of tables stretching the length of the middle of the main dining area.We looked at menus for fun, just to see what kind of food they had, though the dinner was pre-planned. There’s a great description of the restaurant, some of the ingredients they use, and how they came inside the front of the menu – they use spices I’d never even heard of which was exciting! I tried the Pinot Grigio which was light and crisp, great for the hot day outside and the first round brought out was a series of plates with puff pastry triangles and little bowls of hot sauce. The triangles, which look like samosas, are filled with a delicious lentil mixture for the vegetarian ones (we didn’t have the beef ones). They’re great with the hot sauce which sneaks up on you a little but is so flavourful with great spices and a little smokiness. We each had one and I split an extra with Derek they were so good.By this point everyone was pretty comfortable and the conversation was getting lively. The platters brought out were huge for the main course! There was the giant puffy bread circle, loaded with mounds of Cabbage/carrot (delicious!!), lentils, split peas, lamb, ground beef, and chicken. There were several rounds of rolls of extra bread brought for us to eat with, and steaming-hot bowls of rosemary beef and mushrooms (I passed on those ones but the beef was delicious). The food was so good we all stuffed ourselves silly and then had to take leftovers home. The last time I had Ethiopian I left starving…this time I was satisfyingly over-full.You can tell they cook from the heart, and with bringing spice in directly from Ethiopia it’s as authentic as you can get. I loved it and can’t wait to go back.

Wonderful place to check out if around 10th NW. This was my first time eating Ethiopian food. I loved the bread, very unique. I ordered a meat combo. I thought the prices were great. I will come back to try some other items on the menu.

I ordered 70 sambusas for an office event during which we were fundraising for Ethiopia. We wanted to give the staff a little taste of Ethiopia – we ended up with a big taste. Based on this small selection, the food was great, and the spicy hot sauce was even better. Their customer service is above and beyond. There was a snowstorm the morning our food was to be delivered, traffic was awful, and Marathon was unable to find a delivery driver to bring the food to us. So, instead, the ownerdrove all the way to the south of the city to deliver the food just in time for our event. Even after a trek across the city in the snow, Michael was very gracious and friendly – great service with a smile! Thanks Marathon Restaurant, I’ll definitely be visiting thenext time I’m in Kensington!

Fun, Tasty, Different, Slow. Six of us from work for dinner during the week. Great fun to try something different. We all shared from two giant platters. I thought the food was delicious. Lots of flavours jostling for position on your palate. Service was friendly but ‘relaxed’. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you were on any sort of fixed schedule.
