We tried this place a while back from a recommendation. Upon entering this place we were greeted by lady who happens to be the owner of the restaurant. I ordered the beef special tip which came with Injera bread. The lady mentioned the bread came be quite filling as it acts as a sponge so she recommended we don’t have too much of it at the start. The beef cubes tasted okay (a bit tough) and the flavor was a bit different than I expected. If I had another choice of meat I would probably try the chicken. Overall experience was okay and prices here are around $20 per plate. I’d recommend trying this place out for the experience.
VEGANS HEAVEN!!!!!!!A friend suggested I try Marathon Restaurant because they offer a great selection of vegan/veg friendly options. This place did not disappoint, I ordered the vegetarian platter for one $17.00 and it was so delish. The platter was large enough to share as an appetizer with a large amount of Ethiopian bread served along side the plater. I had the chance to chat with the owner about his 20 year in business, he was kind, compassionate and above all passionate about his food and the customers he served. Its truly a family affair with so much heart and soul, I loved hearing him talk about how the restaurant is home to him and his family. Did I mention its a VEGANS DREAM!!!!! Dont worry there are options for everyone not just the veg people! YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE.
Our dinner group met here to catch up. Long a Kensington fixture, the Marathon has consistently provided tasty food and great ambience. We ordered sambusas and shared the combo platter; chicken, lamb, beef, lentils, veggies and all the injera needed to eat the beautifully spiced food. All seven of us enjoyed everything including our visit in this restaurant. We even got to try a new beer, St. George Lager, brewed in Addis Ababa – very good. Easy to recommend this place if you’re looking for something a little different. Indeed, many thanks for a great evening Marathon Ethiopia.
