Decent lunch spot for downtown west end although I’m not sure from reading the reviews if the DT lunch crowd is the bread-and-butter. The inside lounge has a good layout but the dining area has a sparse assortment of haphazardly arranged tables on what I assume is the weekend D-floor. Service and food passable – enjoyed my classic ruben with fries…but it’s a hard order to completely fail.
HORRIBLE. last Saturday went to celebrate a friends milestone with 25 guests she had per booked a table and let us know she had ordered 100$ of appys that would be served at 8pm. I arrived late to the party around 930 and was stunned that my friend was so upset with the service she wanted to storm out. At 930 the apps she had ordered were nowhere to be seen. The table was full of people without drinks they had waited over 1/2 hour after ordering for their 2nd drinks. We didn’t see any waitress until 10 when she brought out a tray of disgusting fried food in a chafing dish. Some were still frozen. Perturbed by this we ordered a steak and frnchfries. The steak was in edible over price and we couldn’t eat it. The unfortunate part was we came to enjoy the live Latin music and dance the night away and would most undoubtably be back with lots of friends. But they wouldn’t serve us water after the band started. Which made dancing the night away impossible. I had Paid the 10$ cover happily. Really unbelievable. Wish the band would play elsewhere so I could enjoy a night of Latin dancing.
So impressed.. Loved the guy who runs this place, really good to us, last night was a saturday, my first time there and i had the time of my life, place was super packed, music was great, super cool place. Will be coming here very often.
I would go as far as to say HORRIFIC owners !!!! They have 0 management skills.. terrible service, food is not worth the price ! Oh and hAve I mentioned HORRIFIC owners ? Can’t even give you a glass of water unless you buy alcohol… charge you cover when our meal bill was over 100$. They are obviously hurting for money when they need to rob you !24 Aug, 2014Terrible service. Owners only see you as $$$$. Food is not worth the price! And the service again is horrific ! Terrible! Don’t recommend for a night out even if you just go out to dance !
Poor Quality food. Had Dinner at this place one evening after work, while the decor is quite nice and atmosphere seems pleasant the food was very poor. I had the rib-eye, i asked for it medium-rare and it came well done, it was smothered in what tasted like canned beef gravy that was way too salty. The side vegetables where ok. Over priced for what the quality of the food is, would have been reasonable if the food was good. But it was not. I will not be going there again.
Good food, over bearing owners. I have come here several times and sat at the bar and the patio after work, and have for the most part enjoyed myself. The food is good however the portions are certainly not accurate for what you are being charged. Especially the wings, $8 and they throw a few dried out wings on a plate, without any garnish or dipping sauces. This is an easy fix for a more enjoyable experience. As for service the wait staff is always friendly and chatty, but Rio goes through serving staff quite often. Each new week is a new person. Additionally, I have witnessed the owners micro manage their staff like children. The older male talks to his servers like animals right in front of customers, and makes no apologies for it! With this kind of blatant disrespect for his staff it’s easy for customers to be turned off, as I certainly was. Being that they are fairly new to the scene, if Rio can give you a better bang for your buck and treat their staff better in front of customers they have the potential to be a downtown hot spot!
Good food and awesome service. Was in Calgary for business and visited this restaurant 3 times. Nice athmosphere and the food was really good. I recommend the grilled salmon and the ribeye which was cooked to perfection. Will be going back next time I am in Calgary.
