Love, love, love their Malaysian curry on rice. Right amount of spice to give that kick. They have raised the prices from when I first started coming …

Sadly, I don’t enjoy my Laksa. The place is very nice for a downtown fast food restaurant cafe whatever you call it. It is cozy. Service is pretty good. It wasn’t very busy when we got there. But it got pretty full as soon as noon hit. My friend ordered roti which was so delicious. It was fluffy and perfectly made. I ordered seafood laksa. I was so excited thinking that okay, now I have a place whenever I crave Laksa and don’t need to drive to North East or North West to get it. But my excitement died as soon as the laksa hit my palette. It was tasteless. I am glad they did not put any MSG but this laksa literally was tasteless. The broth which I normally love the most, tasted like plain water. The noodle is so hard, felt like it was not cooked properly. My friend warned me that the price is higher than what we got at Banana Leaf or Tropical Delight, but I understand since they are in downtown Calgary (everything is over priced). The price did not bother me at all. For $18 laksa, it was truly the worst laksa I’ve ever had (believe me, I have had bad laksa). Next time I go to Spice Cafe, I am going to stick with the Roti.
Good Food, Slow Service. In my experience, the food at the Spice Cafe usually tastes great. The ingredients that are used always seem fresh and of good quality. The prices are a little high if you are looking for fast food, but I don’t mind paying extra for fresh, quality ingredients. The staff has always been friendly and willing to answer any questions that I have.My Issue with Spice Cafe is the slow service. I went in at around 9:30 AM and ordered a grilled peanut butter sandwich to go and there was no one ahead of me waiting for food. I waited 25 minutes for the sandwich, in that time another customer came in and ordered a breakfast sandwich and received their order in under 10 minutes. When I finally received my sandwich, it was completely cold. I do not just mean that it had started to cool a little, I mean there was no warmth in it at all and the bananas in the sandwich seemed like they had just came out of a refrigerator. By that time, I did not have the time to complain and wait for a new sandwich as I had to get back to work. This is not the first time that something like this has happened. While I enjoy the food (as long as I get it while it’s still hot), I will not be returning to the Spice Cafe as I can’t wait that long for something simple.
Horrible Portion for Price. Curry was adequately spicy. But for $20 it was basically a take-away box with rice and curry.. couple pieces of broccoli thrown in for colour and like 3 small pieces of lamb. I opened the box and looked at what I was going to eat and honestly said WTF? Absolutely terrible portion.
Best Laksa in the city!. Whenever I’m feeling sick or just need some delicious soup to warm my tummy this is the place I go to.
This place has no etiquette! Polar bear don’t talk for somebody else unless otherwise you were in their shoes. Mind your business
Expensive but fresh and tasty
