A coworker had recommended Saffron to me as it was nearby and overall the menu looked pretty good! I took a chance on it and stopped by for a lunch run recently. When I reached the place I was greeted by a modern and clean restaurant. I noticed however that the restaurant was almost empty. I decided to take a look at their menu, which did not have the lunch combo that I heard from my coworker. Asking the hostess at the front, she pushed the sign beside her towards me.I ended up getting the chicken curry. It took about 10-15 mins to make, which is pretty reasonable especially considering it’s the lunch rush. The lunch combo includes rice, the curry, naan bread, and a really awkward looking salad that I actually enjoyed. Unfortunately, this took away half the rice from the box. The salad was made of carrots, lettuce, grapes, strawberries, and cucumbers. Odd, but very refreshing. When I first opened the to-go box I noticed a thick layer of oil on top of the curry. THICK. They also had forgotten utensils – I should have checked. Ugh. The food itself tasted fairly average. Nothing to write home about.I’ve definitely had much better Indian food elsewhere, and I didn’t find anything that really distinguishes this place from any other Indian restaurant. The prices are pretty standard. I doubt I’ll be back. All in all, not recommended.

I love this place! Each time I’ve gone the staff has been incredibly friendly. The lunch special is a good deal and perfect size. Their butter chicken is EASILY the best in the city! 11/10 delicious.

Blatantly telling you this review is going to be totally biased. My first time ever having Indian food, and i thoroughly enjoyed dinner here, surprisingly.Arriving on a Sundays night at around 7pm, the space is quite roomy with plenty of seating. Greeted almost immediatley and was told about the buffet and given a separate menu to order from the kitchen. (They discreetly kept pushing for us to go for the buffet)Walking in here blindly, and staring at the menu we assumed that the individual dishes would be 1 for 1 rather than family style. We were wrong. Its family style. Would have loved for the staff to notice our struggle and give us a heads up. But whatevs.Paneer Pakoras basically deep fried cheese, you really can’t go wrong with this one. UNLESS you don’t like cheese 4/5Chicken lollipops 5/5 slight heat with each bite and totally crispy. Came with a green sauce that had a cilantro taste to it, so good! Chicken Tikka Masala 5/5Butter chicken 3/5 Alloo Gobi 5/5Accompanied with saffron rice and garlic & cilantro naan BOTH WERE BOMB.We had Gulab Jamun for dessert, which was basically dough dipped in honey. Way too sweet, did not enjoy. The night was fine, service was in and out, wouldn’t say they were at all knowledgeable nor did i enjoy the feeling of being a burden by ordering food instead of going for buffet. A fan of Indian food now! Wouldn’t come here specifically for it though.

Loved everything about this place. A bit of an unexpected location, in a random strip mall in deep south Edmonton, but inside Saffron has quite nice ambience. Nothing fancy, just nicely done. Went for dinner on a Monday night, with our two kids. Everyone loved it, although a couple of dishes a bit spicier than the kids prefer. Had samosas and fish pakora as starters. Then we deliberately over-ordered, knowing we would take extras home. Aloo gobi, channa masala, butter chicken and chicken vindaloo all among the very best we have ever eaten. Even the naan bread was fabulous – super fresh and light. Service was fantastic. Exemplary in every respect!

Excellent menu, food, and service. Being exvancouverites, we have had our share of Indian food. Amazed to have kerala and gol gappa which we have not seen before on a menu. They were delicious. They also had a gluten free roti and were able to cater to dairy allergy. The lamb biryani was full of big chunks of lamb. Prices are very reasonable. This will be our go to Indian restaurant from now.
