Great restaurant in Calgary. From the dim ambiance, to the warm welcome to the most well harmonized flavour profiles African and Jamaican cuisine has to offer. This restaurant certainly spiced up my flare for good food abd beverage in Calgary. Two thumbs up!
Despite these negative reviews, give it a try!. I like to go to a place a few times before I give a review, perhaps this may sway you from the few negative reviews I’ve seen, which probably were one time visits. I’ve been here about 4 or 5 times and every time was good/excellent for me. I guess the haters can consider me lucky. I really really loved their buffet on Sunday. The service in my experience has been great. Low key, laid back atmosphere and friendly people. Highly recommended.
Food was microwaved, the Jamaican patties tasted exactly like the ones you can buy frozen at the grocery store, yet slightly worse. I am really sad I entered that restaurant, I will make sure to read reviews before eating somewhere ever again, stay clear!
Usually I am very positive re: reviews. Unless a negative one is merited. This place should be avoided at all costs! I read a few of the negative reviews prior to eating here. Boy were they right on. NO jerk chicken! NO Jamaican paddies. The chicken roti I eventually ordered was the worst I ever eaten. 90% potatoes and 10% processed chicken. GROSS! The waitress we had was rude and impatient. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Don’t bother coming here.. Yeah don’t go here… Terrible service, we were waiting an hour, for them to tell us the chef wasn’t in, and our food wasn’t made yet. They over cooked their fish to the point that it was worse than jerky. The owners don’t care about service or food, there was no compensation for the terrible service, they are also argumentative. Food portions aren’t big at that price point. Never again. Go elsewhere.
AMAZING!!!! THIS PLACE HAS HIGH END JAMAICAN FOOD!! THE BEST!!. We are from Ontario, my partner is from Jamaica and I cook Jamaican food all the while!! BUT this place was by far the best Jamaican restaurant food we have EVER had! We ordered delivery to a hotel as we were visiting Calgary, but have recently moved the Alberta. Everything was fresh, flavourful, tender and soooo delicious! Just what we were looking for! We WILL be back to Calgary soon just to dine at the restaurant! We will make the trip just for the food. What a treat… AMAZING!
TRY IT!!. Yes!!!! I looked at reviews and the website for this place for a few weeks and finally decided to try it. I go to Jamaica several times a year and I am always searching for good Jamaican food when I am in Calgary. This place has a great website with full menu you can check out before you go. I thought it was going to be more like Jamaican fusion, but it seemed 100% Jamaican to me. I wont list my thoughts as pro’s and cons, as that really is debatable depending on a persons taste,so here are my thoughts from the time I walked in, until the time I left. I went on a Saturday evening about 7pm. place is dark and cozy, a good size place, lit with a few lights, mostly by the candles on each table. There is traditional seating on one side, and on the other half there are bar style tables, and a little dj booth, and small stage. I say dates for shows the end of November on Saturdays at 9pm. they must have a few d.j’s those nights, not sure if there is dancing. full bara good sized menu, although I asked for a few items and they didn’t have them, including no shrimp, no chicken patty, and no cake from the dessert menu other than rum cake which I don’t eat. the menu was all of the traditional Jamaican dishes you would see in Jamaica. I got the escovitch fish, I think it was about 15 dollars and the plate of food was HUGE. a whole fish, salad, cabbage salad with tomatoes, rice n peas and lots of cooked vegetables on top. the food looked very impressive and tasted amazing. the waitress was very nice and sweet and friendly, she definitely made my experience great. the place is nothing fancy, but better than your typical hole in the wall place. bright colors and loud music playing. there were all black people there (working and eating), not sure how many of them were actually Jamaican, but this makes the experience better (for me) felt like I was eating supper in Jamaica. 🙂 I like that this place offers many appetizers, drinks, and dessert too. something a lot of Jamaican places don’t offer. I will be back here. the atmosphere was very laid back. my daughter sat and colored and we just relaxed and took our time. we did not feel rushed, the place had consistent customers but was not overcrowded. I could go here every week (and might start). I eat at another place called AAA donair, they have Jamaican food as well. The prices are the same but this place is a bit nicer, larger, and more selection on the menu, same prices. if you want Jamaican food and music in a relaxed atmosphere, GO HERE. 🙂
