It was both good and bad. I had the Samurai Ramen. I thought the broth was very good but the noodles were over cooked and mushy and didn’t seem to be of high quality.

This ramen had no soul. The sushi was comparable to something I would buy from Safeway.Asked for noodles on the side (blaspheme, I know) and extra shrimp in the spicy tonkatsu…Everything was all jumbled up and the shrimp was botched and dried out.The broth was a sin, pretty sure you didn’t even use bones in your broth.Expensive enough that I want my money back.Don’t go here, don’t order from here, just no.

Potentially Worst Ramen in Calgarywent to Samurai Ramen because it was late afternoon and all the favorited places were closed except the ones downtown where you have to pay for parking. also, right next door to one of our favourite Vietnamese restaurants, so we thought it might potentially be a great restaurant as it has to compete with Pho Xuan as well as Forbidden City across the street. unfortunately, our assumptions were just that. firstly, decor and atmosphere is ok. seems clean and fairly new at first sight, but as we waited and looked around i noticed a few things that disturbed me. i’ll get more into that later.menu is fairly simple, which i like, as it usually means that a chef can spend his time concentrating on perfecting and managing a focused menu. my wife and i ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and my son ordered the Samurai Ramen (Soya Sauce based broth with peanuts). it was a pleasant surprise, as we waited for our meals, when the waiter brought us 3 pieces of complimentary Motoyaki (Scallop & Shrimp mushroom cap). it was cooked well and a nice appetizer. this set us up to anticipate some quality Ramenhowever, as we gazed around, we noticed mismatched tables and chairs. to me, this is a sign of potential cheapening out on things that might matter more too. now i started to worry. we didn’t wait too long for our Ramen and when it arrived the first thing that caught our attention was the perfectly done Tomago egg. good sign. and then it all went downhill. i always taste the broth first. Tonkatsu is my absolute favourite Ramen broth, and this one was thin and disappointing. tasted close to Tonkatsu, but something was off. then i dig into the noodles and yuck! completely mushy, overdone noodles! the Chashu was grey in colour and completely dried out. not even close to traditional Chashu. best described as a poor attempt at Chinese Chashu, but lacking in flavour and juiciness that you normal find with good Chinese Chashu. they would have done better to go across the street and buy some quality Chinese Chashu from T&T. they topped the soul with boring plain bean sprouts. i don’t mind fresh bean sprouts, but would have been better if they were seasoned. plain bean sprouts did nothing to add to a boring, lifeless Ramen. very disappointed in this Ramen. the Samurai Ramen was almost exactly the same. the only difference was that the broth had added spices (see photos). overall, the worst Ramen we’ve ever had. will not come back. especially for the price. they’ve priced it on par with the famously touted Shikimenya Restaurant and well above Muku and Samurai Ramen doesn’t come close.2 only because of the attempt to make us welcome with free appetizer that was actually fairly nicely done.

This place is horrible. They messed up our order, forgot our drinks and the food sucked. If you like food and having a good time, avoid this hole.

Quaint little sushi place with about 10 tables or so. The free amuse Bouche was mototaki….. shrimp on seaweed and mushroom with a mayo based sauce. The special rolls were quite good. Kid enjoyed the green dragon.. it had avocado cucumber with more avocado. The service was ok. IMHO servers shouldn’t eat where diners are. It makes it awkward if you need some ie more napkins etc. We ordered a number of special rolls. Skimpy on the tea. If you’re going to charge 2 person tea and are using teeny tiny pots.. give two pots. On my last refill server refilled half way. We’ve already spent 90.. it would have bern nice if they were more a little generous with tea. And more attentive with service. We did enjoy the amuse bouche (tastier than li ao and way better than kinjo) and we did like the presentation and special rolls.

Meh. Nothing spectacular here. I guess it was not NOT good. But I will likely not be returning here. Service good, ramen meh. Meh. Meh.

Food: ordered salmon maki, salmon nigiri, tuna crunch roll. It was only slightly better than Safeway sushi. The rice had too much vinegar in it and was a little overcooked/mushy. The free shrimp motoyaki appetizer was delicious. I won’t order sushi here again though.Service: friendly! No complaints. Came out pretty quick but there were only two customers in the restaurant at the time.Ambiance: no complaints, but nothing amazing.Value: it was not expensive, but I wouldn’t pay that much again for that quality sushi.I probably won’t come back here, but if I do I’ll try some of the cooked dishes instead. Like I said, the shrimp appetizer was really tasty.
