The cocktails are so delicious and you get complementary pretzels. Its just like visiting a southern truck stop but with more flare. The jalapeo queso dip was creamy and delicious And the dried green tomatoes are succulent as well.
It was the last Dinner Club of the year and we picked a place with a fun atmosphere and friendly staff: Have Mercy. I was hoping wed get lucky and hear some live Honky Tonk music, but alas that did not happen.A few of us partook in a some whiskey and bourbon cocktails. I had my first Mint Julip, not sure how it rates to others but it did have a lot of crushed ice making it difficult to drink. There were complimentary pretzels and a dip that was very much like BBQ sauce on the table while we decided what to order. Our favourite dishes of the night were our appetizers. The Hush Puppies were delicious and packed with flavour, little bites of jalapeo hidden insofar. But hands down, the whole table adored the Fried Green Tomatoes and said wed come here again just for those! The were crispy perfection. There were a whole mix of dishes ordered individually for our group. Two had the special: $20 meatloaf, which in my opinion had the least exciting presentation especially for the price. The side potato salad perplexed my friends…they didnt really know what it was…and I was given a nibble, it was salty and more the texture of mashed potatoes which is why they were confused I guess. One friend ordered the Fritto Pie (an appetizer) as a meal and it came with the Fritto chip bag to prove they used the real thing. Our vegetation has the ginger carrot soup and also ordered the grilled cheese; she was very happy with her meal and had to save the second half of the sandwich as it was large. Another friend ordered the chilli burger and it was overflowing with Chili so he was a happy camper. Yet another had the ribs and beans. As well, one Dinner Clubber has the Chicken and Donut (you read it right!). She loved the chicken but didnt finish the huge doughnut. Myself and another ordered the shrimp and crab salad open faced sandwich on a piece of Texas toast with arugula on top. We also had the thyme fries which I was looking forward to. They were good fries but I didnt really taste the promised thyme, they were just regular fries in my opinion. The shrimp and crab salad was very salty. In fact the salt content was remarked upon a few times through dinner and we went through a lot of water. On the drive home, five of us were simply parched due to the saltiness of our meals, which is too bad because it was a fun place and had a good Southern Menu.
The food and service were incredible! The fried green tomatoes and hush babies were some of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted. Very unique and fun atmosphere with a bar feel and awesome setting. Can’t wait to return!
This is my new favorite southern restaurant! I love their food, atmosphere and decor for the place. While you wait they offer you complimentary pretzels and dip – needless to say… I had my fair share… they were so good and FREE. I had the chicken and waffle and it pretty good (nothing out of the ordinary but overall good). However, my girlfriend’s mac and cheese was disappointingly under flavored. (3.5)Update: Came back a second time (was offered a credit) to try their food again. It was a improvement, they got new items and improved their taste. Overall, on my second visit, the food and service was much much better. (4)
Was here last night our server was brand new we were his first table EVER he did a great job. I find the menu quite small…. tried the hush puppies which were the highlight of the meal, the grits and shrimp were okay as was the salad my wife had , biggest disappointment was the collard greens and ham, really salty, unable to finish the dish….and it was very loud in the place……would i go back? Lets just say i have been there twice, first and last time!!
I came here with my girlfriend to Have Mercy as a group effort with her friends to try a new restaurant at least once a month. The place is tucked away upstairs on the 2nd floor above El Cortez, you’ll have to go up a narrow staircase to reach it. The place itself is spacious enough, dark of course and they have live karaoke on Wednesdays. When you sit down they offer you complimentary pretzels and dip. Fantastic to snack on while you wait. Everyone at the table ordered different things as their menu is quite varied.I ordered their Gull Valley Fried Green Tomatoes and this was by far the most delicious dish I had. It was absolutely fantastic, the batter on the tomatoes was super crispy and provided that satisfying crunch everyone can associate with. The andouille sausage gravy was delicious on top. This dish started me off on a high of good expectations but everything else after was just pure mediocrity. I also got their Jalapeo Queso Dip. Chips are chips, the queso dip itself was tasty but the jalapeos littered throughout it were bitter as a motherf****r. Ruined the whole taste of it really. For the mains I got their American Cheeseburger and it was probably the most forgettable/boring burger I’ve had in awhile. Soggy bun, borderline bland and small. For almost $16 it was almost the size of a kid burger at Fat Burger, not worth it. My girlfriend got their Steak w/ Beans on Toast and that faired a bit better. Steak was cooked nicely, beans are beans but the presentation all around doesn’t look nice. Overall it’s meh. I’m not into bars/pubs as much and the food minus the Fried Green Tomatoes, I probably wouldn’t go back.
Have Mercy is a unique dining experience. Our food was tasty but nothing too out of the ordinary. The Mac and Cheese wasn’t very flavourful and the pulled pork burger was a tad generic. The service was good and the atmosphere was eclectic. Perhaps, we will return on one of the Elvis nights!
