I am writing review for this awesome place long time after I actually visited. This place made me the sushi lover I am today. I visited Edmonton during summer for a 3 months stay at U Alberta few years back and this place became my favorite lunch hangout. When I visited there, I was staying in Europe before for couple of years and never found any Sushi place anywhere in Europe as good as Kyoto. Starting from the super cute seating arrangement to super friendly staffs this place was just great. I still remember Bento Box with sushi and tempura combo as it was my favorite. Assorted sushi combo was great too. Kyoto will always be one of the best memory from my Alberta visit.

    | Rainbow Roll | Sashimi + Beef Bento Box |Tasty Level: 5.5/10Price: $10.50/ 12Will I come again: yes to try the other type of rollsCheck out my instagram @eatwithasia to see more reviews!! —I was pretty disappointed about this roll. Though there was plenty of sashimi on the sushi, inside was only filled with tempura bits. The roll was kind of dry and if they added a sauce, it would taste so much better. The visual was okay. The avocado looked very mushy and not as fresh. I would definitely recommend trying another type of roll when you come to this restuarant.I was pretty happy with the sashimi. The pieces were much bigger than I expected and they were very fresh as well. The marinade for the beef was good but I thought meat was a little over done. Also, the tofu was also very delicious since it was still pretty crispy. Over all, the amount that you get from the bento box was very filling and not bad at all compared to the price you are paying for.

I have been to the Kyoto downtown several times and was never disappointed so we decided to try it here because it would be a first for me. We went there for a late lunch so the restaurant wasn’t too busy.We ordered tiger roll, tsunami roll, and assorted sushi. I found that the rolls were not rolled very well and they were falling apart! I am generally not a fan of unagi so I didn’t really like the tiger roll but I thought the tsunami roll was not bad in terms of flavour. I liked how it has tempura bits – I sometimes like some crunch to my sushi rolls lol. I found the sashimi good on the assorted sushi but I was kind of expecting more than 4 nigiri sushis on an assorted sushi. I felt like they kinda cheaped out on us by giving us a maki roll and 2 slices of a regular maki! Not sure if this is normal for their lunch menu but it was really disappointing.Service was fine – what I noticed is that they were very keen on refilling our glasses with water. I also liked how they gave us miso soup & bean sprout salad to start. I was just disappointed how it’s not as good as the downtown location. I doubt I’d go back here and just continue going downtown!

Just had a work lunch at Kyoto. We ordered several rolls, the sashimi boat, gyoza, and tempura. Overall the sushi/food quality was pretty average. Where Kyoto excelled was service. Our waitress was very accommodating of a colleagues Celiac disease, recommending rolls and suggesting ways of preparing rolls gluten free via substitution. Everyone left feeling quite full. The bill averaged $30 per person, which isn’t bad for sushi.

Our go to lunch spot, Bento boxes are so afforadable big portions and taste great, bento D is my favorite 🙂 Gave 4.5/5 because service is not always wonderful but the food makes up for it

I consider myself a sushi connoisseur and I’m really picky. Kyoto near the University has some of the best sushi I’ve eaten in Edmonton. The rice is fresh, warm and tasty; and the fish always tastes fresh and not fishy. My favorites are the Isobe maki, Negitoro maki and Dynamite roll. So tasty! Oh and great service and very friendly staff. I often order take out and they are very speedy.
