Back ten years ago.. This was place was great, even at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Now it blows.. Had a donair last night… Meat was precut and really dry, cheese instantly started rumbling y stomach(even though I have no dairy/stomach issues) and the sauce uninspiring… The only thing that tasted like it should was the iceberg lettuce!!!
7.5 out of 10.. I’m somewhat of a Donair connoisseur, and I eat donairs from a standpoint of hunting for the most tasty donair. So far I’ve tried a few donair places on Whyte ave, and this was one of the best. UPS:-The donair meat was hands down the best donair meat I’ve had in the whole city.-He put lots of sauce on. -It was hot.-The pita was firm.-He wrapped the donair both cleanly and beautifully. It was very tight so nothing could fall out. This guy is obviously a pro.-There was just enough cheese! -He didn’t skimp on the veggies, but didn’t put too much either.NEUTRAL:-He put pickles on it. Super freaking weird for a donair. Neither good or bad, tho.-He put jalapenos on the donair. I actually liked that but I love jalapenos. -The sweet sauce wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best. But he did put a really good amount on, which I appreciated very much. (it sucks when donairs don’t have enough sauce.)-Pita was kinda tough and chewy. Might be your thing, might not be. Keeps everything together nicely though. DOWNS:-Could have used a bit more onion and tomato (though I might be biased to desire extra anyway)-It was pretty average-looking in size for a super donair.-The place was kinda shabby looking inside, but I don’t really care all that much because it still looked clean and the sign on the outside helped to make the character of the place come together.Overall it was pretty good and I’d recommend this to anyone on Whyte ave looking for a good donair.
Best donair I’ve found in Edmonton so far. Yes I was sober and ordered 4 to take home. The sweet sauce is the closest yet to a Halifax donair (where the best and original Canadian style donairs came from). The meat is well spiced and the service was good for this style of business. Only suggestion is the pita bread should be grilled, not warmed in a steam table dish with the meat. I prefer the meat off the cooking spit but here they keep pre-cut/cooked meat in the steamer. Which isn’t the worst though because you can be sure it’s fully cooked. Fresh off the grill is still the best. Best donair sauce to be had here in Edmonton and the owner is proud of his recipe that he claims to have gotten from a place in the East-Coast.
The cashier – young Lebanese dude was awful and very rude! I ordered six large donairs to go and they we Pre-wrapped and by the time I paid, they had the donairs in a brown paper bag and ready to go! Ok so I didn’t get a choice to pick condiments or sauce, but a Donair is a Donair right?? The first bit we all discovered the meat was dry and crisp to the point it was like they had the meat cut and ready from that afternoon and it was dried right out! The service 2/10 and the food rating 1/10. Don’t bother with this dump!
I loves me a delicious donair. The donairs at this place are good, but they could be great. The flavor of this donair is fantastic, the red sauce they put on the lettuce s fantastic. The service is always very helpful and friendly. My only problem with this place is the temperature of the donair. Most donair places cut the meat off of the spinner and then fry it up quick. At this location it is sitting in a warming tray, and goes from there to the pita. I have eaten here a few times and it was done this way each time. I want my food hot! Next time I go here I am going to ask for a quick fry.
Uncaring Boss. I’v never once ate there but the man who own’s the place also own the burger baron on 111ave and 95th street. And he has a girl who works at the burger baron and he treats her like trash. She does everything by herself and she get no over time pay. I will never eat there since the owner does not care about his employees or know about Alberta laws
A Good Donair. I’ve visited this location a number of times now over the last year and predominantly while sober. It’s consistantly offered good donairs and enjoyable service. The meat is well seasoned and moist without being greasy. Though the sauce is good it has on occassion been a bit too sweet for my personal preference. They also offer a range of fresh and pickled toppings and while I’m generally a purist when it comes to an East-Coast Canadian donair (tomatoes & onions only) I’ve ventured for adding hot peppers on occassion. I like the fact that they wrap it well here and serve it in a plastic sandwich bag so you can eat and walk with it without wearing it. I haven’t tried anything else on the menu or the other Queen Donair locations but this one’s near enough to my neck of the woods. The bar crowds outside on weekends can be highlights or lowlights, depending on the night and your social preferences. Its worth stopping in all the same.
