This is quite a cute bakery hidden in the corner of a strip mall in the Thorncliffe area. It’s much smaller than other bakeries around the city but they do have a variety of pastries nonetheless. Service here was great. They answered any questions I had pertaining to the ingredients they used. I’ll admit, the pastries here are not my favourite but hey do taste good and are nicely presented. I tried a selection of desserts from here and I’d have to say the ones I enjoyed were the cannoli’s and the strawberry rollets. I’d recommend this bakery for people who don’t have such a sweet tooth since nothing I tried really gave that kick of sugar that sugar lovers look for. If I were ever in the area again I would stop by for a small treat, but it’s not my first choice of bakery.
A really great hidden gem! The first time, I ordered a chocolate German cake and it was delicious! I recently visited the shop again, and got a salted caramel cheesecake and two macarons: chocolate and mangos. The cheesecake was really delicious and was not overly sweet as I thought it would be. The macarons tasted very fresh and were packed on with flavor. I would definitely recommend.
This is a little gem of a bakery in Thorncliffe! It is in the back corner of a strip mall with a very busy parking lot. The bakery is tiny, and eat-out only, but they have amazing pastries! They have traditional Mediterranean desserts such as baklava but their western desserts are equally good! I had a small lemon meringue pie – the crust was buttery and crisp, the lemon curd wasn’t too sweet, and the meringue was caramelized and perfect on top. What a Great Bakery!. I found this under Calgary’s top 20 bakeries & we were not disappointed. Ordered the vanilla strawberry cake & an assorted tray of goodies for a birthday with 25 people, everyone wanted to know where it was from. The staff was so helpful when ordering the custom cake & it was ready exactly when promised. My sister is inviting guests this next weekend just so she had a reason to try another cake. Bravo Orchid !
Isn’t Baklava supposed to be crispy?. I purchased from Orchid Pastry at the Farmer’s Market. I’m a huge fan of baklava and it looked great so I bought some, as well as other pastries. The baklava was really not at all what I expected. I took a bite and… it wasn’t crispy at all, it wasn’t overly sweet and dripping with honey. Instead it was soggy and dry on the inside, not very flavourful and didn’t taste very fresh. The other pastries were dry, but the taste was ok.
