Stopped into the Cash Casino with my grandmother for Dim Sum on a Saturday morning. I had heard good things about the Dim Sum at Cash Casino but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. I am all about the pork buns when it comes to Dim Sum and unfortunately they were mediocre. The daily congi (a savoury rice porridge of sorts) was easily the best thing we tried all morning. Our service, although very friendly, was mayhem with servers forgetting stuff we ordered and other servers bringing us dishes we didn’t. Not sure if I will give Cash Casino another try…if I do it most likely won’t be for Dim Sum.
Surprisingly decent dim sum. Wasn’t sure what to expect from an Asian restaurant in a casino but it’s the real deal. Chinese people like it enough to line up at the door, which tells you it’s authentic. All the favourites — hargow, shumai, steamed spare ribs, sticky rice as good as anything in Chinatown. And enough fried goodies like spring rolls and the like to keep the usual casino patrons happy. The problem is the location. It’s dingy and small. The casino itself looks like it’s in a cell block in a cave. I’m not a gambler so the ambiance doesn’t do it for me. I’m not sure I’d take my kid even if it was legal (I’m not sure if it is). Also, I was led to think it was $2 an item not $4.25, which is still reasonable. That’s why I gave 3.5 — the food is 4.5 but the location is a 2.
