I dont usual comment on anyone’s reviews as its always your personal take at any given time as to how you like the food being served to you or how good the service is, but comparing the Carvers to Smittys…………well i dont know, certainly I never had anything at smittys that could rival the food here even on a bad day…….which I guess is possable…but I always try to give a couple of chances to anything new, I have been to this steak house a few times and its always been concistant, not earth shattering but good, service is always good, the new look is fresh and sharp, my steak was really good, starters and salads were also hot and cold where needed, really enjoyed it
Very disappointed, expected high end steakhouse but is actually low to low midrange. Suggest Alberts or even Smitty’s for similar food quality. Hys is an actual high end option. Mediocre service, grisly, dry prime rib, looked and tasted like instant potatoes, soggy side vegetables. Summary. Low end steakhouse at high end price!
Tried Carver’s for the first time since their new renovation. The decor is now a trendy red theme. We had their special set menu that night which was a half dozen (per person) fresh oysters, a huge tomahawk ribeye for two, and a chocolate panna cotta to end off the meal. The oysters were fresh, the steak was melt-in-your-mouth goodness, and the dessert was very delicious as well. We also had the popcorn soup and a house salad with added grilled prawns. The popcorn soup was SO GOOD, and the dressing (mandarin vinaigrette )on the house salad was so refreshing and appetizing. Overall we were very satisfied with our meals and will definitely come back!
Bad. My family used to live this place but the new menu is terrible and they no longer have food as they once did. Really pricey for what you get I would never go back
Really Enjoyed the New Carver’s. I went to Carver’s with a few business associates earlier this week and really enjoyed the decorative and menu changes that have been made (it had been over a year since my last visit).The first thing I noticed was the new dcor–the room no longer is tired and boring like a lot steakhouses–it is warm, vibrant, and very welcoming. The space easily compares with the fun, contemporary dining establishments that are popular in the rest of Calgary.Two of my group had steaks and were not disappointed–the same great sterling silver beef prepared just as ordered (I think the cooks are the same that have been there for years). The beef came with parsnip mash potatoes which was a nice change from what most places offer. I had the sea bass and it was terrific–light, buttery, cooked perfectly, and accompanied by a beautiful coconut sauce. The only little thing I would have liked would have been for a few more vegetables to come with this plate.For dessert, I had the chocolate chili cake with vanilla ice cream, and it was terrific! My guests had the sticky toffee pudding and lemon semi-fredo and were also pleased with their choices.All in all, we had a very nice meal and will definitely return.
