Average. We ate at the Kitamba Caf, the large cafeteria inside the Zoo. It had various stations with different kinds of food (burgers, pizza, pasta, chicken fingers, etc) as well as a fridge with ready-made sandwiches and yogurts. We ordered two chicken burgers, fries and an order of chicken fingers. The chicken fingers were already cooked and placed in a paper cup, they tasted average at best, considering we had no idea how long they were sitting on the shelf for. The chicken burgers however, took over 10 minutes to make (apparently they ran out), cost $6.75 each and although taste OK, you definitely need two to fill you up. This place is a convenient way to get fast food, but in the future, I would suggest bringing a picnic.

It is what it is….. Awesome going to the zoo and expecting a good dining experience! That’s like going to a baseball/football game and complaining about the paper napkins with the hot dog.
Mostly lousy, with a few nicer additions. Food at the zoo used to be just ghastly. It’s now a little better than that, but not much. It is indeed very pricey for small items like cups of veg or fruit, and there isn’t a lot of variety. However, they have replaced the awful shaved meat on a bun sandwiches with a nicer selection of sandwiches and wraps, and you can sometimes get a nice grilled veg option. However, their wraps are alwasy dry and hard — I think they use a lousy quality of plastic wrap or something, because a well wrapped tortilla doesn’t get that hard. Or maybe they over warm them when making the sandwich, which will also result in them going hard. The burgers are not very good. The bright spot is the Sunday Brunch at the lodge, though it’s a tad overpriced. They have a nice selection, the bacon is alwasy crisp, and there are a ton of desserts and salads in addition to the breakfast offerings. The eggs bennie need a bit of work: I know that it’s hard to make a hollandaise that will not suffer in a chafing dish, but a little lemon would go a long way toward brightening the flavour and counteracting the oiliness. They have an omelet station that’s so-so, and a selection of french toast and waffles as well. The quantity of food is very good if you happen to be a big eater, but I’m not.
