Found this bakery online while on the search for a good pie and Im so glad I chose this place to go to! I got the apple and plum pie (fresh out of the oven) and it was one of the better pies Ive tasted. The design of the crust around the pie was beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. I also got a small pear amandine and a pecan tart to try. The pear amandine wasnt my favourite, I wasnt particularly a fan of the almond based crust but the pecan tart was amazing!! I definitely want to go back and try more of their yummy baked goods – its so hard to choose with their large variety!
The sense of community revolving Bon Ton is astounding. The relationship this little bakery has with the locals show to hold strong and genuine. Patrons coming back weekly for the aromatic baked goods along with the bonus of friendly faces! I visited a few days before Canada Day for a quick sweets trip. Grabbing one of their caramel eclairs and a box of 5 assorted macarons. Upon leaving, the sweet sweet man that helped me reached over to a plate filled with complimentary cookies to celebrate Canadas 150. T.T SWEETS FOR MY SWEETS? OKAY. Won me over instantly.Caramel eclair – $4.75 – – not the best eclair Ive had. The coating on the top was really gooey and messy, rather than coating the actual pastry, it basically slipped off entirely once taking a bite. Also expected more filling inside the shell but was sadly disappointment with how sparse and empty it was after my first bite.Macarons – $1.95ea – 4/5 – Expectations for their macarons were a bit low to start with how mixed the reviews were. Thankfully I chose to try them for myself because damn, these were pretty good. Not top tier but definitely satisfied the craving. Flavor wise everything was pretty standard, the shells were so pretty and delicate though which made them that much more appealing.Bon Ton is so close to home and Im so glad I tried it out, finally. Yeah, Ill probably come back for more of their macarons, and Im also dying to pick up some tarts and pies to try next time too!
Tried the Black Forest Cake and Cheese Buns. As previous reviewers indicated, it is pricey. The Black Forest Cake was $45. It was delicate and crafted elegantly, the cake was above average in taste. It is definitely a new take on an old classic. The cake was small for a $45 cake. They said it would feed 10-12 people. I suppose it would if sliced thin, however with decent portions, you’d probably only get away with 9 slices. Was the cake good? Yes. Was it worth the $45 price tag? No. I have had my fair share of grocery store cakes to custom artisan cakes. For what was offered, $33-$38 price range would have been a reasonable price to charge. Not that they advertise it as having any liquor, but I could not taste any liquor in the cake which is one less reason to charge a premium on the cake (because most upscale bakeries do use liquor). They had a wide selection of other cakes available, all very nice looking. Some of them looked more reasonably priced, so I’ll be back to try those ones. Cheese buns were good, but again for a bite-sized bun, $1.50 is hard to stomach. It was not a standard run of the mill cheese bun. This particular bun was filled with a cream-cheese and sugar mixture as filling. I suppose this bakey caters to higher-end clientelle, which is why their offerings are more expensive. It’s definitely not a bakery I’d frequent on a regular basis. But for a special occassion, I’d give them another go.
I absolutely love the Almondine Croissants. They are the best thing in the city. I also usually pick up some chocolate croissants, a few danishes, and some sourdough bread. Excellent!
Pricey. I got few treats today to test drive some of their stuff. I had hard time picking due to their prices. Like many reviwers mentioned its expensive. Just to give you an idea one little eclair is $4.50. Yes…. not a typo. Regardless I bought a few cookies and pastries and came to $25. Taste wasnt out of the ordinary either.
Over priced but still good.. Service is fast a friendly. The room is clean, well laid out and smells great. The real star of the show is the bread. the pasties are ok but the bread is fantastic.it over priced but its a nice treat.
Not as good as it was. Picked up a large strawberry chocolate torte on Friday for my daughter in law’s birthday. It looked beautiful, flawlessly decorated, and personalized. However, it looked better than it tasted. First of all the cake had been frozen…for $40 I expect fresh baked. Also, it was dry, very dry, and almost tasteless. I was very disappointed having made a special trip to get something of exceptional quality, and then…didn’t.
