One of the Best Ginger Beef in Town. I’ve been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and always make sure to sample their Ginger beef. Dan Shing’s Ginger beef reminds me a lot of deep fried fishballs from Philippine hawkers. The crunchiness and the tangy sauce makes it quite unique. Plus the layout reminds me a lot of Philippine eateries. There’s a touch of local ambience where the lack of flashiness adds a positive flavor to the surprisingly good cooking and food taste. Been there twice and will be back for sure.
2017 Update:I came back recently and learned that it’ll be closing down soon when the lease was up 🙁 I guess it’s time for the owners to retire? The prices were so low when I went. It’s like going back 10 years in time. The fried rice was OK for the price I paid. I’d say everything is cheap but the quality is just not there anymore. 2012 Original Review: Decent prices – looks promising. But my wonton and beef tendon soup at around $9 wasn’t so impressive… I’d rather eat this at Double Greetings or even Garden Bakery. Other people’s food (calamari, fried rice, etc) looked pretty good though. I just gotta order something different next time.
Hidden gem. My trips to Edmonton are never complete without a visit here. One of Edmonton’s hidden gems is all I can say.The staff are friendly. Service is fast. Usually fully packed with diners from the Orient.
Pho-tasticcc!!!!!. I love the pho and the bun bo hue here. They only have 3 types of noodle bowls under this section. There is a pho soup, bun bo hue, and a Cambodian soup. this is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants here in Edmonton. Not only are the bowls HUGE, they are full of noodles and MEAT! This is my favourite place to go for lunch when I work. The only thing you need to know is they only take cash. Oh, and I guess they also have Chinese food there as well.
Not authentic. This is a Chinese food restaurant for non-Chinese people. Not impressed by the fried noodles. All they did was cook the meat and vegetables and put it onto a plate of uncooked cheap noodles. Is that what you call stir fry chow mein? Not good at all. I almost choked on it as it was so dry.
We were recommended by a family friend who lives in Edmonton to give this place a try. Place was very clean and the staff has a interesting sense of humor. There was over 8-10 tables full when we got there at 2. Pretty good for non lunch hour rush. Didn’t like the rice crepes too much. The deep fried chicken was very good and definitely worth a try. The prices are very good for the amount of food you get. Try the Singapore fries noodles too! If you don’t mind that it’s cash only restaurant then give this place a try.
Good food, good price!. I have frequented this restaurant many times and have enjoyed it every time. They have recently renovated the inside and is now more appealing to the eye compared to the 90’s look it used to have. Most of the servings are enough to feed two adults and the price is single mother friendly. The restaurant is child friendly and I often take my little ones there. The whole meal is $20 – $25 every time. The service may be slow when they are busy but the wait has always been worth it. Take out has always been ready within 30 minutes, even when the restaurant is full.I recommend the foo-kin fried rice, wor-wonton soup, house special chow mein, crispy shrimp with mayo, and their pho.
