We specifically came here to try the infamous stuffed chicken wings with sticky rice. I have not yet found another place that serves this. Theyre the size of your fist and $5.25 each. Perfectly crispy and sticky rice is warm throughout. We also had numerous other dishes which I did not capture a photo of. Some of the highlights included: fried rice which was very good, they added some sort of salty-egg-textured flavour to it which I cant quite gauge what exactly it was. Drunken chicken – this was delicious as well but if you dont like taste of alcohol you prob wont appreciate this. I wouldnt mind coming back to have dinner with a big group here. The stuffed chicken wings are def worth trying. Our waitress was attentive and helpful as well.
Walk in to this restaurant and all you see is Asian people, this got to be good for Chinese Food. Order a dinner for 6 and I find food was coming out pretty slow, not like most Chinese restaurant that they put as much food on the table as they can. Over all, food was good, services are better than another Chinese restaurant, at least when you ask for water, they will bring it to you. Price wise is a tat on the expensive side. One outstanding item was there stuff chicken wings.
The typical Asian family will have about 5 go-to restaurants they will frequent in their lifetime, Hot Wok just so happens to fall upon my familys list. Rotating from Jumbo to Hot Wok if were wanting a typical family style dinner. Hot Wok has been opened for a while but this was the first time visiting since they moved to their new location. If youve already frequented Hot Wok before, youre quite aware of how tiny their old space was. The new space can comfortably sit 10+ large family style tables with a few smaller tables onto the side, without the need to push past other chairs and tables to get to your seat. (YAY) Servers were the same as before except maybe one new face. Menu is the same as before, service was standard asian service while food was just as I had remembered; tasted great and was spot on taste wise. Consistent and Precise – Reasons why we keep coming back!Dinner for us this visit was $235 – Ordered on the menu for the dining option For 6, while also adding in the shrimp and peach dish. First Course – Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup – 5/5 – If youre new to this Asian dining experience, you probably wont like the consistency. The taste overall is pretty underwhelming so I usually add in a couple dashes of the white pepper provided! Second Course – Chicken Wings Stuffed With Sticky Rice – 5/5 – The dish that introduced me to Hot Wok in the first place, and the dish that makes me continue to go back. You MUST try these! The sticky rice is a perfect texture mixed with the asian sausage, the chicken wing was already great the filling just made it 10x better. Third Course – Deep Fried Crab With Stir Fried Peppers and Onions – 5/5 – Most barbaric dish youre going to eat tonight. Fresh crab deep fried with the potent smell and taste of the stir fried pepper. Once youre done gnawing on the meat off the crab legs, scoop the peppers and onions onto a bowl of rice! Fourth Course – Shrimp, Squid and Scallop In Nest – 5/5 – there was peas and broccoli and celery and carrots too. The nest is deep fried noodles, youre welcome. Fifth Course – Crispy Chicken – 2/5 – Chicken was dry. It usually is. We just always get it, just to have it. Sixth Course – PEACHES AND SHRIMP – 5/5 – MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. THE BEST. I LOVE. JUST EAT IT. Just enough sauce to cover the shrimp with each shrimp deep fried so crisply that even once covered in the rich mayo sauce, you still get that crunch. Seventh Course – Steamed Tilapia Fish – 3/5 – Fish came out hot, and cooked perfectly. Fish slid off the bone and was flakey. Their was a decent amount of ginger and onions, but the oil/soy sauce tasted a little burnt this visit. Eighth Course – Enoki Mushroom with Bok Choy – 5/5 – Of course the vegetable will be the last dish to come out. My favorite part of this is the Enoki. The sauce has this silky texture, sticky enough to coat each bok choy. Making eating veggies a little easier. Bonus! Complimentary dessert! Taro, coconut and tapioca dessert;; Comes hot, and has a sweet milky taste. Guilty pleasure. They also always seem to have this every time we go so be sure to ask for a bowl or two!If you actually read all that and currently finishing this sentence off, can we be friends?!
