Great little place for breakfast in a unique little market. Lots of fun stuff to look at in the market. There was a very limited breakfast menu. We both had a breakfast of eggs bacon and ham on a croissant with a coffee from the booth around the corner. The croissants weren’t made on site but they were much better than the pasty croissants than you normally encounter these days. I will go back to this little place the next time that I’m in the area.

Le Picnic is a cozy stall operated inside of the Market on McLeod complex. This unassuming joint serves various comfort foods, with an emphasis on their grilled cheese sandwiches and crepes. I tried the goat cheese, Monterey Jack, and bacon grilled cheese, which came with a tomato soup as well. I thought that the sandwich itself was grilled quite nicely, and the bread was buttery and crisp. The filling of the grilled cheese also had a nice balance to it, as goat cheese is such a strong flavour, any more of it and it might have been too overpowering. At about $9 for the whole meal, it’s certainly an affordable option to satisfy that craving for solid, hearty food. I also found the service to be quite friendly as well, with the owner offering to bring the food to my table when it was ready. Definitely a great option for a snack or lunch while walking around the rest of the market!

Very good cream puffs at a good price, and the little pot of tiramisu is similarly tasty and similarly good value. The case has to be full of goodies to be really inviting- I was there on a Thursday, a slower day at MoM, and it was almost empty. But I look forward to trying more.

Sandwiches, grilled cheese, pastries and desserts fill out the small menu at this new vendor at the Market on Macleod. If you want a simple cooked meal, Le Picnic is your stop. Run by a nice, but quiet lady, she takes pride that she makes everything except the croissants. She was quite passionate about her spanikopita which was actually quite large with a thick layer of phyllo pastry on a thin layer of spinach. At $4.50 it was an ok snack.I did get a grilled cheese which was pretty simple for $8.50. The thin bread was coated with butter for some greasy goodness, but I think all-in-all the ham, havarti and even the bread could be pumped up for weight. This shop is meant for your general comfort food. It’s quaint, but may need a bit more to stand out amongst the other food vendors in the market.
