Very very cool Asian style ambiance! It is quite dark inside this restaurant but I liked it 🙂 They mostly offer a build you own stir fry style of menu that is very affordable especially considering all of the fresh veggies available. You choose your protein (if you want one), choose your starch (rice, noodles, etc.), and then you go up to the buffet with your bowl and load up on as many vegetables, sauces, or condiments you like! Most people had heaping bowls of vegetables The chef will then cook it all up. I made mine a little too spicy but it was still pretty good. Just be mindful that the ingredients you choose will actually taste good together. The highlight of our meal though was the banana won ton dessert!! It was absolutely incredible!! We will definitely be back!
Open Sesame was a place I have wanted to try for a while and I was finally able to try it. The food was okay. Some of the dishes we tried were absolutely delicious and others lacked flavour. The service was excellent…our server explained how the pick your own stir fry works and the selection of vegetables and sauces for your stir fry was good. The lighting was dark but overall the atmosphere wasnt too bad. Id probably come back again if I was in the area, just to try some other dishes, but its not one of those places I would drive across the city just to go to.
The food was pretty good but I had to go looking for our server.on more than one occasion. We we.a.party of five at two in the afternoon so busy wasn’t an excuse.
Always a fun place to come for a nice supper out. The concept is: fill your bowl with what you want (salad bar style) and they will cook it for you; the meats you choose are extra. The ambience is excellent for a date night or a Saturday night supper with friends. I especially like their cocktail options which are also on the pricey side but are delicious and inventive. I have gone many times over my years in Calgary and will continue to go in the future.
We went here based on the good reviews, looking for a place that had veggie options. We were so disappointed and couldn’t believe the relatively high rating! One of us took the stir fry option, one of us got a Buddha bowl and one of us got the butter chicken. The Buddha bowl came with no mushrooms (unlike as described) and crunchy burned noodles. The chicken in the butter sauce was almost black – not burned, just mottled grey meat? The spring rolls were nicely seasoned but cost $4 each and were not worth the price. We ordered naan with the stir fry but it was more like a dense, soggy pita. None of us enjoyed our meals, and we left hungry. A limited menu with poor quality dishes.
Very poor tasting food and drinks. The pop was not fuzzy, the dumplings wrappers were thick & the entrees (dragon noodles and pad Thai) were just very disappointing. The dragon noodles were undercooked. The pad Thai was bitter. The chicken/shrimp dumplings and the kimchi were the only good things we ate in our 30-45mins at the restaurant. This is our third time here and we will not be returning for certain.
I have been coming here for over 15 years and almost always enjoy my meal. I recommend the one trip through the Asian market, though sometimes I have put too much sauce or too little flavor But over time I have figured out which sauces I like to mix and match and make a wonderful creation. I like the different meats and seafood to pick from with rice and noodle options. The best are all the veggies you can pile in your bowl and select many different sauces from the variety they offer. The atmosphere and decor are warm and inviting. The prices are reasonable, the quality of food is good and service is friendly. This place has been one of my favourites over the years and I would highly recommend it.
