Worst pho and sub i have ever had! There was literally no beef in my beef sub… i paid $7 for carrot shreds, the whole cilantro stem and bread. The pho was GROSS.The meat in it tasted like it was soaked in cilantro, the broth wasn’t flavorful at all, the packaging was atrocious.. they don’t even provide you with a bowl to eat out of.I will NEVER order from this restaurant again.
Saigon Bistro is a spot that I accidentally stumbled upon and is a location that is not easy to spot on my way down Macleod Trail. I love vietnamese food, so I thought I’d stop in and give it a whirl. The location is quite large inside with a lot of seating but as you can tell, it is as most vietnamese places: a mom and pop shop. This left them understaffed and under serviced when there was a decent influx of people. The food is okay with a lot of traditional items and oddly enough a few Thai items.I had the vermicelli and chicken and beef with spring rolls which was pretty good. I ended up eating it all. But my woman who ordered the pho in a small bowl did not end up liking it very much. She says the broth was too sweet. She left hers relatively untouched.I’m willing to come back and try other items but probably not with my woman. The server/father was a very sweet man and very happy that we came to his establishment. Despite his location being okay and not amazing phenomenal or great, I’d come back to support just him
The people in this restaurant are extremely friendly. I’ve ordered their pho a few times and they are really yummy. The restaurant is really clean (including its washroom) and I’ll definitely be bringing my coworkers back here again!
Curry soup seems to be the latest pho variety catching Calgarians’ attention. This bowl (#48) was $9.95. It arrived about 10 min after ordering in a mostly empty dining room. It was not served with the normal onions, chili peppers, cilantro, lime, bean sprouts or basil. After asking for the side plate, I was told those items were at the bottom of the soup. Only the sprouts were…The next thing I noticed was the frozen vegetables in the soup: peas, corn, carrots, Lima beans and green beans… WHAT!?! The first spoonful of broth was a huge disappointment: too sweet! On to the noodles: short, spaghetti-like and overcooked — not easy to eat with chopsticks. The chicken was one step away from jerky. I wouldn’t be surprised if the meal was loaded with MSG. Overall, I’ve never had a gross bowl of pho, but there’s a first time for everything. Unfortunately, a failing grade.
I’ve been coming here for years. The restaurant has changed hands with the new ownership greatly improving the interior decor. However, the food quality went downhill. It’s still good, the shrimp sweet n sour soup is my fave, but it’s now the third best in the neighbourhood. Bow River Restaurant on Elbow is king while Bolsa, across Macleod from Saigon Bistro coming in second.
Had a vermicelli bowl. It tasted good but about an hour after eating here my whole family got sick. Disappointing, but you kind of get what you pay for.
This is my favorite neighborhood Vietnamese Restaurant. My family and I have been eating here for a few years. The owners are friendly and kind. The staff attentive. The place is always clean. My favorite items to order are the shrimp salad rolls, the spring rolls or the spring roll rice vermicelli and once in awhile for a change of pace or the go-to-soup when I have a cold…..the Curry Chicken Noodle Soup. My husband enjoys their Banh mi sandwich and my son enjoys the dumplings.
