Meh. The salad bar is great but there is WAY better curry (or lasagna) to be had in town. Plus you’re eating in a supermarket.
Community Cafe. Is great. It’s got the best salad bar I’ve seen EVER. I’m not talking about grand scale, it’s the quality of ingredients available. Mixed organic greens, spinach, alfalfa sprouts, bean sprouts, shredded carrot and radish, all sorts of cheeses, olives, seeds and nuts, dried fruits, and a multitude of dressings to top it all off. Salads are weighed and priced on a scale, I’m not sure of the rate, but as a person mentioned below it is worth thinking about how much you actually want to eat, because you’ll be paying accordingly. But at $7 for my dream salad, with exactly what I wanted on it and how much dressing I wanted–you couldn’t really start off shopping a better way.Oh, yeah! There are other foods available too! Like forno cooked pizza, soups, smoothies, and more. I mostly stick to salads so I’m not so knowledgeable of the rest. But the dining area is really comfortable, glasses, filtered water, and friendly people–eating doesn’t get much better.
Pros and Cons. Love the selection: organic meat, grocery, produce, cheese, cosmetics, herbs and vitamins, tea, clothing and housewares, and much more. Prices can be too high: I’ll pay more to support this type of store, but $19 for a box of EmergenC is nuts when it’s $14 at Coop and on sale at London Drugs for $11. They need to ensure their prices aren’t so much higher that it’s worth my time to drive to another store for the savings on one item. Other items are priced well enough. Biggest con is their prepared foods: I recently bought some of their store-made potato salads and sandwiches and my husband and I concluded they taste like people THINK health food tastes: bland and a bit weird. The ingredient are great so it should taste great! (Perhaps the restaurant food is better?). I love the ingredients and want to buy their fresh-made foods. Hope they rework their recipes.
Sickly expensive. Outrageously high prices for cafe food and for groceries & produce. Filled a small bowl of rice and chickpeas at their cafe and the price was $6! I left it. Too many staff milling about mostly talking to each other. I honestly don’t think they NEED to charge $8.47 for a half-pint of organic blackberries because I don’t believe they paid $6 for it (markup approx .45 I’m assuming). Fire the blase looking girl in the trendy head wrap and colorful scarf standing at Customer Service picking her nails then lower your prices. Meanwhile, I’m going to Planet Organic to buy my organic produce.
Had lunch there with a coworker at the deli/buffet. It was so very good…. But. There is always a but. Unless you like spending ALOT on lunch. Watch the amount you’re loading on your plate. Or it adds up quickly. But that being MY own fault I can’t fault the store. So all in all. Great place for a warm lunch.
Great deli. I’ve been frequenting the deli section instead of ordering take-out at restaurants. The food is of great quality, delicious and affordable. Favorite items include tabbouleh salad – very light yet filling mixture of parsley and chickpeas and grains. The wild rice salad is a tasty mixture of pumpkin seeds, grains of wild rice, nuts and dried cranberries. Homemade curries and vegetarian lasagna are winners. I also tried a tiny piece of raw chocolate made from dates. It was satisfying and very rich. Cabbage rolls are a little bland, I have to add grated cheese to give it a bit more flavour. Best of all – I can tell it’s pretty healthy. I just went down a whole size! Yay! hittingthesauce.wordpress.com
….Depends…. -The Aisle’s are tiny. -Always Clean- I have found the staff to be really friendly, even when they don’t know what they’re talking about. -They have some good prices for bulk items, dry fruit, almond milk, seeds, -They have assorted meats too: Ostrich, Turkey, Boar, Buffalo, Extra Lean Beef, Salmon, Tuna, Lamb, Elk-I really like their Gluten Free, Flourless whole grain bagels-They carry a natural skin care/shampoo/oils/herbs section as well-If they’re not carrying an item you need, they’ll get it for you.-Sometimes they have speakers or events listed for health, ectSome of their prices are crazy expensive!
